My 1st time of any length in Liverpool and I have to say I was mightily surprised & impressed. Tis a beltin city which I'm sure I'll visit again very soon.
Harry, ffs, whatever you do please appreciate that you are over reacting to a good evening & show.

The city is a shit heap, largely populated by people you wouldn't trust to hold a 5p for you.

By all means return, just remember I warned you once you are over the honeymoon period.
 Bobo, your irrational (?) hatred of all things Scouse cracks me up.

Honestly, if you've not been for a long while you should - it's lovely. The docklands area & Liverpool 1 were great. The cavern area and the Beatles museum are beltin. Only regret was we didn't get to the dockers bar/cafe if it's still going strong - although I suspect that would be more up Wills street than yours
As someone who spent 11 formative years being schooled across the Mersey in a Victorian suburb of Birkenhead, I too found the recent renovation of the city superficially impressive when it was completed, the surprise heightened for me as I was studying abroad for the final year of the Liverpool One development. There must be people who are to be congratulated for the vision and ambition it took to pretty much drop a bomb on such a large site in order to link the stranded Albert Dock to the rest of the city. Maybe it's the scale of what else was going on that meant that the architectural vandalism of the dockland skyline by the new Museum of Liverpool, in the shadow of the Three Graces, was allowed to be perpetrated.

However, you really can't polish a turd and Liverpool remains as unlovable as ever, as William says. The presence of Scousers will always ruin it.

There must be a polytechnic somewhere prepared to fund a study of what effect its Detroitian fall from grace - the Second City of Empire to impoverished backwater in a breathtakingly short period - had on the area's character.

The pride before the fall was there for all to see:

SPQL - the senate and people of Liverpool. It's on a neo-classical building, and a civic building to boot. I don't understand why that should denote pride, it's just an architectural reference :conf:

Ah yes, the Senate of Liverpool.

Apologies, mea culpa.

Why on earth are we now looking at the governance records of Liverpool University?

I don't know, you started it.
(it's got the minutes for the Liverpool Senate in there).
I make a reference to a Liverpool senate, because you made a reference to the Senate of Liverpool, because I pointed out that the senate and people of Liverpool was an architectural reference on a neo-classical building, because you'd used that reference as some sort of indicator of fallen pride.

Thing is Tango for 5 months it is so hot here you can't go out. At least in winter you can wrap up and go out. We get about 4 months of what you'd call really good weather. The remaining 3 are hot but bearable. I signed up for it so shouldn't grumble I suppose

No longer being homeless!

Nice Victorian conversion in Holloway. Back at the nice (relatively) end of Seven Sisters Road.

Minimum three months so I might try to save up to get somewhere nicer after Xmas, but for now, :pissed: a roof over my head!

The 'senate' of Liverpool University. Not that if the Scousers had, actually, set up something they called their own 'senate' that would detract from my point.

Trying to work out whether he means this one and has been copped wearing the pink dressing gown again. It's certainly Victorian.

44 minutes she waited to ask you to get her a drink, rather than get herself one. Brilliant.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

I can heartily recommend the Eastern Algarve LLS. If you do nothing else, hire a car for a few days and explore the interior, it's a beautiful country (although outside the tourist areas, the food is appalling!) and make sure you don't miss Monserraz.
Uma mesa para um, faz favor. Obrigado.
