Hard to believe Bobo but shockingly true and yes enoch I strongly believe the lad may have become depressed. Depression is generally caused by being in a situation were you feel you have no control of your situation and being continually overlooked for strikers who couldnt score may well have created that situation.

Sordell - fine & right approach. Very disturbing to hear he is unfit. He hasn't been injured; clearly a training issue.
aye - but it also staggers me that a highly paid professional football player would not have the personal pride/professionalism at least to keep himself at the peak of physical fitness...

i mean - what else has he got to do all day??
Agreed! Clearly has a poor attitude.
There are people who are self motivated and others who need more help/support. You're talking about a young lad here who has a big price tag, moved away from all his mates then never even got a game. The money thing becomes irrelevant I reckon to some degree. He's got a contract and gets paid either way but being ostracized as he was bizarrely from the start by coyle and being an outsider in a new place must be pretty shit for what is essentially a kid. As others have said coyle seems to have completely neglected the psyhological aspect of new players coming in at the same time a neglecting the physical aspect of fitness. Sordell is not match fit because he hasnt played for 8 months pretty much,he's a long way off match fit because he's probably been suffering from some degree of depression(due to circumstance) and has been under a manager who didnt seem bothered about fitness. How could he have been motivated to remain match fit when he knew he wasnt in the first team picture and he had a manager who had no idea what he was doing.
For me DF s statement is further evidence that he knows what he's doing and that coyle was possibly even worse than we suspected.

Rrrrr my heart bleeds for him

Listen if it's home sickness then i'm sorry the lad need's to grow some fvcking balls

Try going to Afghanistan (like i did my choice i know) where your 1000s of miles from family and friend's and TBH it runs threw your head everyday whether you'll ever see them again

That's when you separate the men from the boy's

The lad needs to suck it up , knuckle down and stop bitching on Twitter

You are right of course in a sense PW but he's not in afghanistan he's in bolton and he's not a hardened soldier with his mates under fire he's a spoilt footballer bored off his tits away from his family. I know what you're saying but it's a moot point. I imagine coyle said something like that being the great man manager he was.

Certainly wouldnt argue with you. But its all about context and experience. DF might be able to sort him out and I get the impression he is not going to be giving him much slack. If he can make the lad realise the opporyunity he has and get him believing and fit then maybe that money wont go to waste.

It does add to the Ream story where we bought a player & then applied no after care whatsoever. However much they should grow a pair (& they should) we ought to spend more time, effort & money on making sure that the investment is protected.

Seriously, if at 21 you moved 100s of miles away from your family for a job, and that job was shit, it'd make you miserable. I can quite easily see how that would affect his motivation/performance. The idea that he can't complain because he's not being shot at is ridiculous. Everything is relative.

I can't believe people whinge about going to Afghanistan. Imagine that: getting three meals a day and a bed and holidays. Yeah, you get shot at, but you have mates there to back you up and helicopters and shit.

That's obviously sarcasm, but there is always someone worse off. The kid (it's depressing I can call a BWFC player 'kid') is homesick; it's a thing, I'd rather the club supported him to try to get him right than call him a little bitch and let him slink off for pennies.

As a supporter I don't want to see any Bolton player fail and I just hope this situation is fixed sooner rather than later

Maybe Gary Speed should've "sucked it up" at the first signs of depression too.

I hope that was sarcasm!
Not being one to be a shoulder to cry on I can understand the mentality of kids these days and this fits the general image. I hope the lad gets over it, bangs in shed loads using his anger/desire to show Coyle what a feckin' knob he really is, cue BL3

What the fvck are you on about . Prick

Has Sordell got depression has he ? and if so how do you know ?

Dougie said homesickness since when is that depression ?

When i went away (for the first time) i was homesick not depressed there's a difference

I said in my post if it's "home sickness" then he need's to grow some fvcking balls and that still stands

So i would think before you post sh1t like that

100% certain it isn't meant the way you've read it as. I get the point Boris is making.

It's just an incredibly boring argument that's trotted out whenever somebody on a good salary isn't constantly over the moon.

Homesickness can often lead to severe depression. Gary Speed had severe depression, but people don't take it seriously if you get a 6 or 7 figure salary.

And no, I wouldn't join the armed forces. At all.

At the end of the day, he's a valuable commodity. And he's a human. So lets help him out rather than leaving him alone to "suck it up" as you so eloquently put.

Not that it's important, but did we ever have it confirmed Speed was suffering from depression?

I know the experts called at the inquest didn't support such claims
