Go to a Sweatshop/ Bike and Run/ Decathlon and get your running gait analysed. They'll tell you whether you are neutral or whether you over pronate (which way your foot rolls when you push off). They will then advise you on the type of shoe you need. Leave the shop, go online and shop for the shoes they have advised you on but would have charged about £30 more in the shop.

8km cross country race in Enfield this morning. Very windy, very wet, very muddy. 39 mins. 40 seconds.
Very much fun.

And hows the poorly knee after that?!Gary the Enfield wrote:8km cross country race in Enfield this morning. Very windy, very wet, very muddy. 39 mins. 40 seconds.

Harry did one yesterday too, despite suffering from man flu. If i was fitter i'd be tempted to give XC a go this season myself. Far more fun then boring road running!

Re: The athletics/running thread
the knee and hip are both fine. I beat most of my peer group too which was a pleasant surprise after last week where most beat me! I really had fun, which is strange for me as I generally hate x-country.Gooner Girl wrote:And hows the poorly knee after that?!Gary the Enfield wrote:8km cross country race in Enfield this morning. Re: The athletics/running thread
Nice one Gary. I normally love XC but yesterday at Liverpool the course was one of those flat non descript ones so it was just running round a muddy field for 3 laps. Most round here tend to be woods & streams & stuff so many are almost trail cum fell races.
I managed a training run of 14 miles today which has left me totally fecked. The marathon seems a long long way off at the moment

That thing makes you look like one of those serial killers on death row in America - you know the ones who's mug shot you see before they are electrocuted. Being mistaken for a girl aint so bad after all eh Harry?!
Good job I know you normally look quite normal and nice GtE, or I'd be petrified to meet you on a dark night!

Funny you should say that. Last Thursday I went for a torchlit run through Trent Park and the surrounding farmer's fields. It was exhilirating running through the woods having to concentrate on every footfall and avoid your fellow runners (eleven of us went out). Anyway, for this Thursday I've invested in this:

Yup. White LED for normal torch setting, green for map reading.

Slightly less chance of you falling in a rabbit hole and sustaining yet another injury then! Good call! Could do with one of them for my evening dog walks!Gary the Enfield wrote:Gooner Girl wrote:What is it? A head torch?

It's a cracking bit of kit. One of the girls with us had one and, as I say, very cheap (not the girl). Apparently some mountaineers can pay up to £200 for a top of the range torch.
