Is going down the tunnel, even if it is 'stropping', when participation in the game in progress is no longer possible, really a serious act of insubordination that needs to be punished by automatic exclusion next time?

I, for one, am pleased he's frustrated about not being on the pitch to influence things. I think the potential upside with CYL is so good as to make it worth trying very hard to make him feel wanted and part of the plan.

Fair points from most in this thread, yes he's not been the same player since his injury but who can blame him? That fecking scumbag Tom Miller shouldn't even be playing the game, it's bound to be in CYL's head and probably will be for some time yet. He isn't going to forget something like that overnight. The only way he will get back to his best is by playing.

I can see what's going to happen now, Douglas will ship out all the players we've got that are actually quality because "they do not give a shit" and we'll replace them with crap, Paul Robinson type players that give it a good shot but are just not good enough. This will end up us hovering around the lower end of the Championship season after season.

We HAVE to keep players like CYL at Bolton while we can, because there's frigging no chance of us attracting any quality once we've been in this division for a few seasons.

What, like he did at Crystal Palace?

I think part of the problem is (and something that Holden will suffer if he ever gets back), he's never going to live up to being the player people imagined him to be while he was injured. He has a lot of quality on the ball and chips in with a few goals, but he's never the type that was going to tear the division apart. He's Stelios without being as good in the air.

After watching Coyle bomb out a number of our decent players only to replace them with inferior ones, I'd be reticent about trusting any manager to get rid of one of our few assets on the cheap.

At his best he would have. I don't think he'll get back to it but we've got to try...

Prozone stats probably show that Afobe runs twice as far as any other player on the pitch. Only problem is he does it down blind alleys and the wrong direction. Oooh, but it's sports science.. And if you use that it automatically makes you mint..

100% this. Though I think he's better in the air than Stelios....

Bloke near me keeps going on about how LCY has lost his "pace" and never takes his man on anymore.

I'm struggling to remember when he ever did. He's always been an "out to in" type winger, drifting in from the line, finding space. He does well when he's surrounded by technical players. He's always flitted in and out of games and he's never been one to rip a full back a new one.

Look at the wingers doing well in this division, most of them are strong, direct, quick and get crosses in. LCY is not one of those, never was and never will be.

Ones who like to receive a pass in tight space and can give one back. LCY around the box likes to pass and move, he often goes for little through balls or one-two's.

I agree technical is an ambiguous term. I was just trying to describe a type of player. Intelligent, comfortable on the ball, works spaces.....

I wasn't criticising YOUR use of it - it is becoming commonplace - often used by commentators who (I suspect) have no real idea what they mean when they announce that so-and-so is a "technical" player.

I'm not sure why - but I find the term HUGELY irritating!!!

so - basically it means a player with quick feet?

I guess. Though I agree with you its hard to pin down what it means.

I suppose it describes a lot of the players Barcelona and Arsenal have used and Citeh to a lesser extent, Fabregas, Nasri, Silva, Iniesta etc etc.....

I guess what I'm saying is that Lee was always as Tom says more Stelios than Petrov. He was never IMO a flying past his full back type of winger.....

You can add "organised" to the list of football related bullshittery.

You are Owen Coyle and I claim my...

Anyone saying "CYL stropped off, let's get rid, we only want committed players" are falling into the classic trap of rejecting a player and his style because he doesn't suit their working class aesthetic. We're shite and half the people on the forum wanted to ship out Mark Davies. Now Davies is out from under a cloud it's time to "get shut" of Lee. Give it up! Getting maximum performance out of our best players should be at the forefront of our plans.

For clarification I'm not saying any of that.
