Not to worry - they may look odd and they may jump but they are harmless I gather. The frightening tales are mostly urban legends started by American service men in Iraq. We have camel spiders in North America so they are not that rare or exotic.Gary the Enfield wrote:Abdoulaye's Twin wrote:I'd never heard of them before, so a bit freaky to see one. Do you get the Camel Spiders near you AT?
I won't post a picture as they are truly horrible looking things.

They do bite though Monty and grow to a fair size.

A mate I haven't seen for some time has just rung me to offer a day out tomorrow at the match.......................in the Platinum suite complete with beer and lunch. Happily and very gratefully accepting this kind offer, I suddenly realised that I am out at a surprise meal for my sister in laws 40th tomorrow at 6pm. I couldn't get back in time. I'm not angry, I'm not sad..................I'm fecking gutted

It's only a birthday she'll always want to deny having. Consider yourself to be helping in that.

Indeed, you can turn up for dessert because you will have filled up at the game.

Oh come one, I'd be on the train and have to get one in after the match= no chance of getting back in time. Add in the complication of turning up to an in laws do absolutely wankered and its sadly a no go.

I just don't understand you, Mr. Bob. In-laws as a rule are just as happy if you don't come. If you do, they tolerate it most of the time. How much do you think you will add to the event? You are giving up a great opportunity to be on time to something you could be late for and few would notice. I imagine it is too late now and your friend invited someone else. But over the years you will resent the sacrifice you made. Mark my words.Bijou Bob wrote:Oh come one, I'd be on the train and have to get one in after the match= no chance of getting back in time. Just man up and make the surprise, that you turn up well fed and pissed at 9pm.
It'll always works well.

I might have to move this to the happy thread. A bottle of wine was plonked on my desk today as recompense.Little Green Man wrote:A colleague phoned me up just after 11 tonight to ask if I could meet him at work so I could let him in to retrieve his wallet.
I stopped off at the pub on the way back for a large glass of Malbec which might just explain why I can't be arsed to get angry about it.

... and to add to the Xmas misery, I've just been sent an email inviting me to a Wreath Making Workshop followed by "the guisers who will be joining us in the bar at 9pm". I had to go onto their website to find that guisers are basically mummers (
waddya mean what's a mummer) "bringing a traditional mix of colourful drama and festive cheer to an unsuspecting public".

Strangely enough we've just had this argument in the office. It was snowing - huge fluffy lumps of snow, about four inches across, floating down, while at the same time there were bursts of liquid rain. Some amongst us claimed that sleet was an inbetween state, a spectrum wherein the droplets of rain are frozen or the snow is semi-slush. Here the snow was snow and the rain was rain, but at the same time. We concluded on a vote of eight to three (we're very democratic) that this was not sleet but rain and snow.Abdoulaye's Twin wrote:Sleet I think you'll findLost Leopard Spot wrote:...and now it's both raining and snowing at the same time...
