I can recall a view put forwards when we should have sacked Coyle about October a year ago, that quite a few folk put forwards the notion that this jaunt into the Championship might be rather fun, so it didn't really matter much if Clueless took us down.

From what I've seen so far, it's just been complete shit.

We've gone from "not being able to contend for much in the Prem" to "not being able to contend for much in the Championship" so far, albeit with lots less money coming in.

Which is pretty much how I recall it as we dropped through the Divisions in the 1980's.

Yep this.

Championship is shit and it just gets shitter the further down you go.

Certainly as a fan it's far more enjoyable losing in the premiership each week than losing in the championship each week....

Not sure whether that's pointed at BWFCI or me, but I'm not a JCL. I was there watching in the old 4th Division, which is why I know it was shit. :-)

Because for about ten minutes in some of the premiership games there is an atomosphere of some sort at the reebok.

Championship it's virtually dead constantly.

And at least in the premiership there is no hope most of the time, and we all know it's the hope that kills you....

I doubt it'll be dead for wolves or blackburn or burnley or leeds - but I'll take your word for it as you go and I usually don't!

if there is no hope most of the time in the premiership - what generates the atmosphere?

The whole thing is just fecked.

We looked utterly lifeless, no urgency, no creativity. Pressed hard for around half an hour, then realised the second goal wasn't coming and so we passed it sideways and hoped time would run out before Ipswich scored.

I understand that we were shit against Brighton too, so I'm not saying it's all down to this, but the atmosphere at home games doesn't help. There is none. It's like an abusive father watching a nervous son. Sitting there, silently waiting for a mistake to come. "Look what you've fecking done now? I knew you were shit!". The feeling of utter contempt people have for our players is unbelievable.

And this was us in a good run of form! Coming off the best performance in years (which is saying absolutely nothing, but we were very good nonetheless) and the longest unbeaten run since Arsenal's Invincibles.

I'm sure his bank account disagrees (and as the manager he has to shoulder some of the blame anyway), but I'd love to know what Dougie thinks when he sits at home on Saturday nights watching Palace on the Football League Show. It's Curtis Fleming I feel most sorry for. He probably had no say in any of this at all.

Well, it did the following season.

We're never going to get anywhere if we expect instant results, and some people need to give their heads a collective shake. We have less money now, we have less pulling power, we have less of a lot of things. Blame Coyle if you wish, it was that way regardless, but its no use expecting miracles from Dougie. He'll probably have to do it the Allardyce way, and grind us out of the division.

But lets be clear on one thing, pissing and moaning our way into division 3 because we believed in our divine right to be back in the Premier League is not my idea of fun.
Fecking hell, have a +1 from me LK.

Agree with that.

Looking at yesterday's game in the cold light of day, I can see what Dougie is saying really. Ipswich did feck all, had no pressure, created virtually nowt till they scored and we were more or less in control, without creating masses of chances. But everyone in that stadium felt we needed another goal. The fans, players and presumably the manager. Did Dougie throw on more attackers because he felt we needed the second goal, rather than because he thought it was the best thing. I'd suggest so. We cant see out games 1-0. You can't always get the second goal and shouldnt always have to. But however solid we are now, we just always look like conceding one even if the opposition barely attack us like yesterday.

That's a mentality similar to the one we had when Allardyce came in. He had to change it and it took a fair old while to do it. Dougie rightly sees he has to do the same job. I hope he can.

We should have relatively comfortably won 1-0 yesterday but got ourselves in a flap because the second goal didn't come. Longer term until we start seeing 1-0's out there will always be too much pressure on more goals. Chicken and egg situation if you like.
Oxymoron?

We're not solid. Far from it. The only thing that has improved defensively, is that the centre backs deal with crosses better.

Oh, and the full backs get narrower too... I'll give him that. But I think that's because he has better full backs than we had at the start of the season.

And we aren't being walked through in midfield anywhere like as much as we were before.

We are IMO more solid. We give away fewer chances. But it just seems that at some points the one shot the other team have will fly in somehow.....
