Re: Worthy's better class of transfer thread
I'm not half as convinced as yerself. N'gog was great for 15 mins against Cardiff, but I think people sometimes get confused by the fact that he can run, ergo he's "doing more". On the other side of this is that he doesn't score many.BWFC_Insane wrote:I'm not sure that when you take the whole of this season into account that Ngog is doing any worse than Kevin Davies? In fact I'd argue definitively that hes not.TANGODANCER wrote:It should be patently obvious that firepower up front is our big let down. N'gog just isn't doing the business here. He may somewhere else, who knows, but he isn't working here. Afobe hasn't worked and he'll be going back anyway, so unless we sort Homesick Blues out quickly (or not at all and off-load him) we need somebody up front badly. If Chungy recovers his form we can play Eagles in the hole for now with KD up front, but that's a situation that can't last forever (sad but true), but we need some results now and we need them quick. Anelka and Sturridge proved the difference in having somebody good up front and the bottom line is, we have nobody near that quality. Right now Elmander and Klasnic on the sheet would look pretty good.
In a bizarre twist of fate, SKD is Bolton's highest rated player in the Actim Index...The only other two (both behind him in the Actim Index) to make an appearance in the top 100 are Mavies and Eagles. (It's not really surprising N'gog isn't in there, he's only made 12 starts)

Apart from that 10 minute blast against Cardiff, I dont think we've seen a great deal from Ngog this season, although Saturday was far and away the worst game I've seen him have.
I know I'm in the minority here but SKD has been fine for me this season.

I think he's been ok too, but I'd have probably flogged him 4 seasons ago...Harry Genshaw wrote:Apart from that 10 minute blast against Cardiff, I dont think we've seen a great deal from Ngog this season, although Saturday was far and away the worst game I've seen him have.

If Mavies goes Zat Knight and Matt Mills will be able to nice person it forward aimlessly without even feeling guilty. That's probably a tad harsh on Zat this season but. I can't make my mind up on Mavies, he should be so much better than he is, but, midfielders who actually want the damn thing get a lot more leeway from me than others.
And N'Gog better than Kev this season? Brilliant.

Not better, but in my view anyway, about as effective overall. Which isn't saying much....Prufrock wrote:If Mavies goes Zat Knight and Matt Mills will be able to tw*t it forward aimlessly without even feeling guilty. Scored fewer and does less?
I think there's a good player in N'Gog somewhere, but odd flashes aside he has been shite. Brighton away, nothing at all up front until Kev came on. Ipswich at home, nothing at after Kev went off. He's got a better touch, quicker, more mobile, but he makes shit runs, wont head it, and is largely anonymous for the majority of games.

Re: Worthy's better class of transfer thread
Last season we had our best run of results and performances with Ngog upfront alone, then for some inexplicable reason Coyle revered to 4-4-2 against Wigan.
Re: Worthy's better class of transfer thread
It wasn't inexplicable.
We'd beat Wigan once playing 4-4-2, on a different day, in a different year, in a different place, playing against different players who were lining up in a different formation.
How could that have possibly failed?

SKD has fully deserved his S thus far this season. Ngog (Cardiff cameo aside) has done very little of note. He'd have probably had a goal against Barnsley, but the ref pulled play back.
For all those still doubting SKD's positive contribution to the team, one needs only look at how we went to pieces after he went off vs Ipswich.

Re: Worthy's better class of transfer thread
I'm an Ngog fan, but I don't even think the lad himself would back him to run from the half way line and score that one on one against Barnsley.
Anyway, I don't think Kev's been great at all, but he does continue to score in spite of this, so who know's. He's earned his place for me.

Re: Worthy's better class of transfer thread
Surely it isn't a coincidence that Ngogs best game came with him as a lone striker at the head of a 4-5-1? The same formation SKD also excelled in against Blackburn?
Both players are great target men, but just don't gel together. If Dougie is going to keep rotating Davies (which I agree he should) then we need to get a player with a bit of pace and a eye for goal alongside them. Sordell is out of favour, and Afobe looks very much a work in progress so come January this is the sort of direction id shoot.

Ngog is a bit like Hesky...you watch him week in week out hoping one day he'll score loads of goals...it never happens.

Looks like we're losing Buttercup after Saturday. Norwich want him back for a cup game next Tuesday.

Bolton are lining up a deal for Norwegian winger Dawda Leigh, 26, who is a free agent.
