what about peas?Lost Leopard Spot wrote:Aye, it works as well without - mind you, that alters the gravy recipe a little bit too.General Mannerheim wrote:woah, had on a minute - you never mentioned owt about kidneys!?General Mannerheim wrote:ooh ta, missed that...Lost Leopard Spot wrote:pie recipe on previous page.General Mannerheim wrote:Always remeber this race trip we went on, we sent one lad into the shop with our cash to stock up on ale, he got on the coach, then when it set off he started passing them out... fkin Becks Blue!
will it still be ok without these vital organs?
And you don't have to do the Bombay spuds bit, but that is more fundamental than the kidneys in a way.
Plus we love it with leeks, but sprouts and or carrots can work equally well.

Well... I'm not a fan. Maybe if you had the kidney, but dropped the bombay pots and just had it with mash, then yes it'd be fine with petit pois or processed peas.
That's not a leopard!

...but then again, I'm just not too happy about peas and beans, it's fundamentally wrong. almost breaking the symmetry laws of nature or like trying to move pawns backwards.Lost Leopard Spot wrote:Well... I did that in Munchen. It was my round when we arrived at the stadium, so up to the bar I pops with a "very civilised these Teutonic types, allowing you drink in the stadium on a UEFA night". As I walked up to our seats, with a tray of 6 and a bag of giant pretzels, some nice person leans out of his seat and gives it "you drinking that piss then".CAPSLOCK wrote:Mid afternoon in Madrid, the ale started drying up
Sent a straggler off ta shop
Non alcoholic came back
Typical blokes thyough, we'd been supping it until somebody happened to spot it was sin alcohol
Spat all over the floor
Just like Guimaraes
Me: "what?"
Him: "That non-alcoholic shit"
Me "ratsbollox".
We just left them under our seats.

Wrap it in smoked streaky bacon and roast it. Game has no fat, so drys up very quickly. Some blacberries would go nice. Bread sauce is traditional, but I'm not so keen.Bruce Rioja wrote:LK - I've bought a pheasant, weighs 1lb (including lead shot, apparently). I tend remove the gizzards, fly fry them with a bit of brandy, then blitz with butter. Makes a nice sort of pate. One of the owners I worked for used to bring me a brace every couple of weeks, and he was a f*cking terrible shot, so watch your teeth. The best shots shoot em up the arse, or in the head, he just used a blunderbuss I think.

Responded to the grey skies, snow and shivery weather by raiding the orphaned and neglected vegetable section of the fridge.
The soup was made with (old) parsnip, carrot, onion, sweet potato, celery, garlic, ground cumin, chilli from the window ledge and freshly chopped coriander...
Was fortification against the elements...
And, I'm confident, will be tomorrow also, and probably Saturday...
That was lunch... tonight was smoked salmon starter and cauliflower cheese... Morrisons made first, my wife the second, I appreciated both.
Had some Muscadet with both...

well - yes - it is entirely possible that Bavaria tastes OK in comparison to meths...Lost Leopard Spot wrote:A vote of confidence... or some very desperate peoplethebish wrote:ok - reporting back on the bavaria..

but - I reckon you had a dodgy bottle/can - or maybe a different version than the one I had - cos this was not at all bad...
having said that - I'm not a lager-drinker - so could not in any way be considered a connoisseur...
I may, however, stash some of these at the back of the fridge for christmas gatherings chez-bish where people want lager but are driving... (and have drunk enough schloer to last a lifetime!!)

Anyway, I'm glad you had the taste and consideration not to post about it on the Ale thread.thebish wrote:well - yes - it is entirely possible that Bavaria tastes OK in comparison to meths...Lost Leopard Spot wrote:A vote of confidence... or some very desperate peoplethebish wrote:ok - reporting back on the bavaria..

PS, I deliberately had a big milky bowl of weetabix this morning. My missus thought I was losing it big style as I sniffed it and pronounced that all I could smell was Bavaria, Bavaria, Bavaria with a teeny hint of milk - I didn't bother to enlighten her what that was all about.

a session at the sandygate inn this lunchtime reveals the following
2pts Otter Bitter > 4 cans Bavaria 0% > 3 litres rat's piss > any amount of Kaliber

Just opened the first beer of the day. Robbed a pear Strongbow off Mrs Horse.
I'm not keen on it to be honest but that's the kind of mood I'm in.
