Then your dad's right.Lord Kangana wrote:My dad always raves about him Bruce. Said he had a cracking eye for a goal.
He simply "knew where the goal was". It wasn't always the case & at an age somewhat older than Sordell currently is he was pretty hit & miss. However, he hit a golden streak and his link up with Frankie W was amazing.
A 'proper' player who never made a fuss, was never on the front pages & he deserves to be remembered.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Neil Whatmore. Now you're talking. My first football hero as a kid and one of my best memories was going mental as a 12 year old when he scored with a diving header at Maine Road.
Funny though in that I think of him as a great player for us before and after Worthington. It was more Gowling and Frankie together no?

It was
Whatmore played midfield if he got a game
His best period was with Steve Taylor

Steve 'Road-runner' Taylor. "Beep-Beep". So fast his shadow couldn't keep up.
Regarding Watty, es, you're correct. When we went up we bought Gowling to play there & Watmore dropped back. The guy had scored 31 goals & we bought a replacement (I looked it up).
So he dropped back & that year scored a mere 18.

Re: Trotters' Ultimate Legend
Was he not back up front by then, following Worthingtons departure to Birmingham?
Followed at the beginning of the next season by Whatmore himself?
Must admit, I didn't realise he was so successful in the top league

Kinell, that's a blast from the past. Him and Whatmore had a spell where they were almost untouchable. Ran defences ragged.CAPSLOCK wrote:It was

Re: Trotters' Ultimate Legend
Excellent shout. He was excommunicated for going to City but a real crowd-pleaser. His pitch-lenght run ups for penalties were legendary. I knew him quite well at one time but my abiding football memory of him has always been his dust-up with Norman Hunter. That really was the stuff of legend.Midnite wrote:What about about Franny Lee...139 apps..92 goals.

That would have been a good dust up...Franny wasn't very tall...5'7 and a bit but usually weighed about 12 stone or more

Apart from Todd v Collymore and maybe on a par with Keegan v Bremner the best pitch-fight in British football in my view.TANGODANCER wrote:his dust-up with Norman Hunter. That really was the stuff of legend.Midnite wrote:What about about Franny Lee...139 apps..92 goals.

Hunter wins on points. Some lovely little back shuffling going on there!Bruce Rioja wrote:Behave. Re: Trotters' Ultimate Legend
Way I remember that, they had a coming together and Franny got a bang in the mouth, then he suddenly realised he had a hole right through his lip and went a bit mental.
