What happened to fans wanting to see the best players they can have playing for them? I don't give one who costs what. I just want to see us win games. We've more chance if doing that with 1 highly talented player than various squad filler replacements.

and that's the big if.... it would all depend who those replacements might be...

I think we're still short of a goalscorer. I'm not suggesting we should cash in on Chungy to buy three Div 1 level right backs. :-)

But either way, the Manager needs to build the squad he thinks he needs.

Isn't that what everyone wants? The best team possible out there? I don't see where that is in question.

What may well be in question is whether 8M could buy us players that make us better than keeping Chungy would.

That is certainly where the nub of the debate lies. Personally I think we could be a better team without Chungy if the 8M was invested wisely in a better centre back and a more reliable goalscorer. Thats not to say doing that is easy or even feasible right away, but thats the gamble.

Part of the problem is we're always going to have to sell players at some point. I don't think that should be viewed as necessarily a bad thing. A good manager uses it to his advantage. We just have to hope Dougie is a good one.

Well he managed to steal £3.5m of some numb c8nts for Sordell. Whilst that has to be admired, he should still start at minus £3.5m on his transfer dealings. :-)

Oh aye - oops.

Balls of the man, charging us £3.5m and he didn't even work for the selling club!

If the manager had money to spend, and we didn't have Lee. Don't you think he's the sort of player the manager would want to buy?

Hence why we should try and keep him.

I honestly don't know. Based on this season, I'd say no. He's not done enough for me. Perhaps he's getting stronger after his injury and all.

I like Lee, I do. But he's not the sort to drag us out of this division.

That "mythical" 20 goal a season striker and big no fecking nonsense reliable centre half, might just though....

I wonder how much Dougie spent assembling the Palace side? Can't have been more than 8M. Just saying......

Can we afford one of these strikers for less than £8m? Especially one that can do it consistently

Murray has been mooted, but he's 29 and this season is only the second time in his professional career that he's hit 20 goals in a season. So it's not unfair to assume that his goals could dry up at any time. I know that's the risk, but if we're shipping out a player of proven quality, then we'd have to get another one in, wether or not in the same position.

In which case we may as well keep him.

That's less than a Sordell.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Me, I'd personally like us to keep players who are proven to be capable of playing at an especially high level.
I'm not sure that is true. I don't think anyone has suggested selling Lee to balance the books. Merely that 8M would be a crazy offer for a player who can't get a regular start in a struggling championship side and that IF 8M was ever bid that AND it was partially or wholly re-invested in the side that we could be better off for it than by keeping a player who has possibly not been at his best and even at his best some could argue 8M wouldn't be far off a decent price.
That's what I don't get. How does a fan put a price on a player?
In the same way that the Club does..He bases it on what He sees vs what we paid and what we could get with the money...SEEMPLES

I don't know, but I suspect not - I'm not sure he's quick enough or direct enough

And anyway, even if he fancied him, I doubt he'd fancy him 8 million quids worth

And that's the point

If he thinks he can do better with the 8 million, 4 million or 2 million, then he'd let him go

wise words!

but fear not - I did it on my i-pad - it's so intuitive and acey-easy that it actually took no time at all - Apple just understands what i want and does all the work for me... I just thought "chungy" and "fan" and the intuitive interface practically wet itself with excitement and popped out a little montage ready for pasting...
