Maybe there where you are - many hours ahead and Friday is part of the weekend, you lazy sod! We still have two days work here.

Booked. I will be re-visiting the Dead Dog Bar and Grill in Jasper next summer. I shall be getting to it via the Iceway. Yes.

Now that sounds like a holiday plan. I have done this a number of times and can offer tips (travel tips) if required. Remember Canadians also tip for service (I can't count the number of Australian who end up with their lunch in their laps). I believe you will find the correct name is the De'd Dog if you want the pub. Jasper is getting expensive (especially if you haven't booked a room in advance). What is the rest of your itinerary?

We've been once before, but we went cheapish and were based in Canmore and Banff and drove in and out of the Parks. This time we've splashed out We're going two nights Emerald Lake Lodge, four nights Lake Louise Deer Lodge, two nights Num-Ti-Jah and a further night in some motel south of Jasper (details not to hand). Ten day stay flying in to/out of Calgary. I'll be trekking up the wilderness trails (looking for bears to photograph - but don't tell the Rangers).

You're allowed to photograph bears, just not feed them. They congregate around the Banff city dump at sundown. The trip sounds great. What month are you going?

Here is a shot I took of Num-Ti-Jah and the Bow Glacier in 2006. You can just see Bow Lake.

Indeed, William. Come to Montreal for a little joie de vivre and go out west for the scenery. It is cooler and cleaner up here.

Here is a lake near Banff

And the Athabaska River near Jasper.

I'm going in August. Flying Air Canada. Renting from Hertz. Using Canadian Rocky Mountain Resorts lodges, mostly. (All advertising for free, but I'm open to sponsorship).

August is a good though busy month - the ice has generally melted off Lake Louise by then and the bears are up and around.
My son and I were in Lake Louise in June - drove up from Calgary where it was warm in our shorts - only to find we could not really see the Lake or glacier.

Yep, we're back end of August, last week, so we are hoping for some good weather and plenty of bears. Last time I only had my FM2 and my one roll of film with bears on was destroyed when Lake Loise film lab went tits up -wasn't happy at all, but life's a bitch sometimes

You should get both and now you have a digital camera. What could be better? Bears at sunset near garbage dumps and deer in the early morning. I've seen grizzlies but not in the national parks, mostly brown bears.

The goats look a little different.

And you don't want to mess with the sheep (right, Bobo?).

Do you have to pay though, or is it free for 12 months, by which time the thing's knackered ?
