Re: Dougie Freedman - New Manager
I think what people want is to win more games and see some progress - what is that now from DF (2 or 3 wins in 10 games) playing against the likes of Peterborough, Ipswich, Bristol City, Barnsley, Charlton etc....Dr.Karl wrote:I'm curious as to what people want from our manager. Under Coyle we moaned about him playing an expansive 4-4-2, not being tactically organised and generally unprofessional.
Now Dougie to me is the exact opposite of that, yes he might be a little negative(I have no idea what happened this afternoon) but he has talked about fitness and tactics in an intelligent manner and has ditched the 4-4-2, exactly what many on here wanted. Yet people still complain. There seems to be have been a decent improvement in the games I've seen and we've accumulated more points and lost two games in ten. Yes its a little dour and perhaps why we've drawn more games than we should have but it seems an improvement on the previous incumbent.
I'd certainly have this bloke than the standard merry go round of managers.
Me personally, I just want honesty from a manager who will engage with the supporters, if he really thinks it will take 2 years to turn this around then tell us.
I'll give him time and I actually didn't mind his appointment as I thought he'd be refreshing, come in tell some truths and shake things up a bit - Yes he speaks intelligently at times but is it really an improvement to date, apart from just 'not being Coyle' !!
Has our fitness and tactics actually improved, has our defence tightened up - do we score more goals ?, remember we are in the championship. He keeps coming out and saying he's got real quality in the squad and that he can see progress - really DF ?
I want to give him time but I also want some honesty from the manager and not to treat the fans as fools....most fans know there are serious attitude & weak mentality problems with this squad, but there's nothing wrong with the manager firing a rocket up their arses and telling them that he won't put up with it.

You want a manager who is tough on the players and tell em what he thinks of them?Peter Thompson wrote:I think what people want is to win more games and see some progress - what is that now from DF (2 or 3 wins in 10 games) playing against the likes of Peterborough, Ipswich, Bristol City, Barnsley, Charlton etc....Dr.Karl wrote:I'm curious as to what people want from our manager. Recently I've agreed with most of what you've posted, but I seriously don't know where your coming from on this issue. I want a manager who tells it as it is, blasts the players when they deserve it and who is open with the supporters - it doesn't mean they have to be Gary Megson.BWFC_Insane wrote:You want a manager who is tough on the players and tell em what he thinks of them?

I've never once compared DF to Megson, so again I've no idea what your alluding to ?

I think you gave a fair assesment of what most of us probably want from a manager and i dont see the comparison to Megson eitherPeter Thompson wrote:Recently I've agreed with most of what you've posted, but I seriously don't know where your coming from on this issue. That's what we all do.
And whoever we have in charge when we don't win you will say we need someone with the exact opposite characteristics to the one we have in charge.
I don't think any manager will achieve much in the modern game 'blasting' players. Not doing it in public anyhow.
Freedman strikes me as someone who has been pretty honest with the fans. Perhaps you want him to come out and publically name and shame players. He'd not last 10 minutes doing that and thinking owt else is incredibly naive.

Anyway I'm off out - we'll have to agree to disagree on this for now !BWFC_Insane wrote:I'm saying that you want us to win every game playing great entertaining football. I've not said that....

Read his post match comments - that's not being honest about today - speak to the lads who actually went it was a disgraceful performance

Mick McCarthy could've built Rome in a day, one-handed probably, if we're to believe this forum's resident genius.YtarmyYtarmy wrote:I think you gave a fair assesment of what most of us probably want from a manager and i dont see the comparison to Megson eitherPeter Thompson wrote:Recently I've agreed with most of what you've posted, but I seriously don't know where your coming from on this issue. Ipswich were bottom with 7 points when he took over. They were four points adrift of the team above them and had just been beaten 3-0 at home by Sheffield Wednesday who were third from bottom. They'd won one game all season.
They've since won 5 of his ten games in charge. They've taken 17 points from the last 30. A better return than Freedman's managed with a much better squad. It doesn't take a genius to work that out.

If you look at the teams he's picked, you'd be excused for thinking he's clueless.

Where were Palace when Dougie left them ?
What makes you think Mick would get the same results here ?

Re: Dougie Freedman - New Manager
Mick 'Mick' McCarthy has definitely performed better with his squad of shite than Dougie has with his shitty squad. No other conclusion is possible. The thing is Ipswich's goal was not to be relegated, ours was to win promotion - which one is closer to gaining what they wanted???

Bitching and moaning every week doesn't help the situation tho does it
How about as Bolton fans we try and actually get behind the team
I believe Dougie will still take us up
January will be an interesting month that's for sure

And again, where have I said different. Come on we've just lost to the worst team in the Championship - you've got to allow some grief, some leeway. I haven't got special powers, I can't sack him and appoint who I'd want, so obviously I'm hoping he does a January miracle. I'm not a nice person.plymouth wanderer wrote:Bitching and moaning every week doesn't help the situation tho does it

Grief really unhappy yes but grief no
