I fail to see any one of our players from our current crop that would consistently get into a Premiership side. I would argue that a fair few would provide decent cover but to say that they're good enough to cement themselves in the Premiership for years to come would be ludicrous.
bristol_Wanderer3 wrote:but we have an unstable defence/goalkeeper, a strike force that doesn't take chances, and a midfield that doesn't dominate possession. So we are always going to find it difficult to win a few games in a row regardless of who is the manager.
We had this when we got relegated and there were the usual we'll walk this league. Truth is we struggled to beat Macclesfield Town last season on three occassions and that was the team that finished bottom of the football league structure. So the leaky defence/goalkeeper, the midfield that doesn't boss games and the strikers that aren't clinical all need to change (personnel or tactics).
bristol_Wanderer3 wrote: Freedman has come in mid season....I feel it will be hard to judge him until he has had a couple of transfer windows, and strangely it may be that we need some less talented but more dependable players in before we become more effective in this league. I'm actually quite hopeful about Freedman and our club, he does seem to be the type of manager who might be able to combine modern management methods with our facilities and sports science expertise to get the best out of a group of players. I just hope he gets a chance to create some momentum.
Can't say its all down to Freedman but I was expecting more. The pity party has gone on long enough.

Our players weren't exactly great last year but it's not like they were clearly exposed either. It's not like we won 3 games all season or something ridiculous like that. We were a poorly guided side with some good, Premier League quality players in it.

I feel sorry for the poor players being booed off yet again today, I really hope that the manager puts his arm around them and tells them all that they've done really well and that we are making progress and to not take it personally, it's just the usual fans not knowing anything about football. And everyone knows that it would be really counter productive to slag them off in public as it would have a real impact on our current good run, level of performance and ultimately our promotion push.

I also really hope that the manager comes out in his post match interview, and thanks the players for the fight, energy, passion, quality and desire that they showed today and that its only a matter of time before a bottom 4 side let's us win. I hope that he informs the fans again that this is the future and that its the way that Freedman's teams play football and that they should embrace his ideas and get used to it.

I'm not entirely sure what else the manager was supposed to do today.

'Boo- we're too defensive at home'. Right go two up top.

'Boo- when we go two up top we get overrun in the middle' Make sure the middle two are our two most solid midfielders.

'Boo- don't do anything mental like stick a central midfielder wide' ok we'll stick two wingers wide, one of who has been our best player this year, and the other who everyone inexplicably loves. I'll even stick them on their right sides.

'Boo- what if they both have shockers and fanny about like big girl's blouses' Then I'll sub them.

'Boo- Warnock has gone back, who's coming in'. Ream (piss) or Alonso (piss). I'll dig out Owen's random selection generator. Ream it is.

'Boo-who's playing up front'. N'Gog and one of the other two.

Especially Marcos Alonso. He needs a big hug, imagine if he hadn't pulled out of that 50 50 challenge with one of their players? He might have got hurt. That silly begger Stephen Warnock would have gone flying in with loads of commitment and could have won the ball, thank God he's gone back to Villa.

Nail on feckin head.
Yep Pru has nailed it. Until we start making some changes to the squad we are fecked. Ream or Alonso cost the same money it took to assemble the palace side. Our purchases over the last 2 years have been nothing short of abysmal!

We've taken one point from games against four of the bottom five teams. Forget about promotion. The real question is whether Freedman is taking us down.

BWFC_Insane wrote:Anyway, I do think when you put our squad down in this division if its managed well enough its the best squad in the division. Thats my opinion. I do believe most in our squad could play in the premiership.

Thats not to say other teams haven't been in the same position and struggled. But player for player, I can't see a squad I'd swap with.

Its up to Coyle to make them perform!
isn't it also up to Freedman to "make them perform"??

Or the players weren't as good as he thought and he's admitted that. Let it go ffs. Never changed your mind?

I don't think BWFCi has changed his mind - what changed was the manager - and so BWFCi's facts changed overnight to suit...

BWFCi not only declared that we had an ace premiership squad - but if anyone who suggested otherwise, he suggested they were either mad - or Coyleites with heads buried in the sand - or both...

this mind-change only came when he no longer needed EVERYTHING to be Coyle's fault...

if it was up to Coyle to organise the squad - then it is also up to Freedman to organise the squad. sauce for the goose..

personally - as I believed at the start of the season - we have a fairly average squad - and Coyle was incapable of making them any more than that. he bought some fairly average players - and that was his fault.

what I DON'T believe is that there is any appreciable change under Freedman (as BWFCi keeps telling me there obviously and clearly is.)

with the same squad - in this division - the disastrous Coyle was going at 1.1ppg... Freedman is going at 1.27ppg

so - yeah - an improvement - but a 0.17ppg improvement?? is that really clear and obvious?? I don't think so. 0pts to show for two games against Peterborough and Sheffield Wednesday???

I just think we should be honest and not simply change the facts wholesale to suit a new argument.

We're nowhere near "Freedman Out!" (I agree with BWFCi there and have said so) - and BL3 is a cock - but let's not pretend that Freedman's start here is anything but disappointing. It is disappointing.

You are largely right. But you constantly pointing out BWFCi's hypocrisy is getting a little tedious.

The manager isn't a magician. We have all been fooled to think we have a premiership squad. Its obvious to me we dont. The manager himself was fooled, Dont think he is fooled anymore. In my opinion, only Mark Davies and Holden (fingers crossed) from the current squad could get into a Premiership team starting 11.

As much as it pains me to say this, forget about promotion. DF has to focus on the next two transfer windows and build a squad capable of getting promoted next season.

I wish our centre halfs were as quick to pounce on a loose ball as Bish is to pounce on any perceived BWFCI error. Did he return one of your round robin xmas letters in the past or sommat?
