I remember this discussion from years ago that scoring was not enough.Prufrock wrote:That, and scoring. The BSA approach when we were under the cosh was all about stopping our opponents getting into any sort of rhythm by breaking up their play. Often, this was by way of a cheap foul. In them days though we could defend set pieces really well so it was an effective tactic. At the moment I dread any cross coming into our box
NGog did his usual trick of looking really dangerous until it came to a final pass or shot.
Sordell just looked like it was all a bit much like hard work. Perhaps it's confidence more than owt else. Time will tell.

I'm not convinced it is, but it definitely helps!

Scoring is the most important part about football.
Re: FA Cup 2012/2013 - Third Round.
True that. The Elk and Klasnic looked like they couldn't be fecked half the time but would have them back in a heartbeatjaffka wrote:Scoring is the most important part about football.

Only to someone that wasn't there, seriously. You or I can brush the ball with our heads. He was utterly abject.Prufrock wrote: That, and scoring. You missed scoring. That surely has to count for something, a little bit...

If we're in the right place to do so... which the rest of our forwards very rarely are, and when they are they fail to stick it in the net.Bruce Rioja wrote:Only to someone that wasn't there, seriously. I wasn't there, and I can well understand criticism if as you and others have said he was generally awful and disinterested. He did score though, and that does count for something, coz somebody, at some point, has to.

It counts of course. But overall he didn't show signs of a player like say Klasnic, who wasn't much in build up play but lethal in the box. In fact he was out clean through at 2-1 and was slow and ponderous and looked anything like a player who was going to bag a hatful for you.Prufrock wrote:That, and scoring. If he's shit every game and scores then yes thats one thing. But I'm not entirely sure he will.

Picked out by Andrews' header back in. He simply happened to be there. Taken in isolation, you could say that about pretty much all of Klasnic's goals. Shit just fell to him. I don't think it is a coincidence when it keeps happening. In every game I've seen him play (which isn't many, granted!) he has had chances. If he was lazy and disinterested then I don't think his goal record is good enough to justify playing him. All I'm saying is, when considering whether he is worth a spot, that he actually scores goals has to be taken into account.Bruce Rioja wrote:Picked out by Andrews' header back in. Nor am I. I do think he is the most natural goalscorer we have out of the four. Given what you have said about him going clean through, that is terrifying!BWFC_Insane wrote:It counts of course. How many times did Klasnic swivel and spank one in left-footed after a kind bounce, or a header back in or a defensive mistake? Every week it seemed!

Re: FA Cup 2012/2013 - Third Round.
I await your corroborative evidence supporting your point that Klasnic happened, by chance, to be in a position whereby he simply needed to alter the flight of the ball on it's way in as per Sordell yesterday. Your talk of him "swivelling"and "Spanking it one, left footed" suggests that you're already not matching like with like.Prufrock wrote:How many times did Klasnic swivel and spank one in left-footed after a kind bounce, or a header back in or a defensive mistake? Re: FA Cup 2012/2013 - Third Round.
There's no more evidence of it than you have of Sordell. Presumably Klasnic anticipated the ball would fall there whereas Sordell was just lucky? If it happens regularly it isn't luck anymore. I never claimed to be matching like for like in that they scored identical goals, Sordell has shown absolutely nothing to suggest he is half the finisher Klasnic was. You said he just happened to be there, implying he was lucky. Plenty chances Klasnic scored came from him 'just being there'.Bruce Rioja wrote:I await your corroborative evidence supporting your point that Klasnic happened, by chance, to be in a position whereby he simply needed to alter the flight of the ball on it's way in as per Sordell yesterday. Re: FA Cup 2012/2013 - Third Round.
Sordell took his goal well, yeah. He constantly put pressure on there defenders chasing the ball etc which won us a few throw ins in the top third, other than that he was terrible. I know Bardsley isnt slow but Sordell looked like he was running in tricle when chasing a ball against him. As for Ngog I think he played well but as someone posted earlier he does the hard work then just cant seem to get a shot away. Midfield was OK considering against premier league opposition. Defence - Was impressed for the majority of the game. I think Alonso is coming on a hell of a lot. Lonergan well I think everybody has mentioned looked class. Would definitley start him against Millwall and see if he can back it up. I dont think we will get a win at their place but that game has given me confidence that we could possibly move up the table. COYWM!!!
