Re: Petrov to Espanyol
Undoubtedly a handy player to have on the bench was Petrov, when you have the luxury of 7 subs.
I've seen him change games at both ends of the pitch - great when he does it at the oppo's end, not so hot when he's giving the ball away in our half, not chasing it back and giving the LB no cover whatsoever.
Sad to see his skill leave us, but overall not upset that his wages would leave the wage bill, and on balance, the amount of game changers he played Vs what he's been paid - not something we can afford, I suspect.

@Lord Kangana, oh that it were as simple.
I'm completely at one with your point though.

We replaced Klasnic with Afobe, for example.
He has undoubted quality that can be the difference in a game in this division; this is the kind of player that clubs like Millwall, Watford etcetera do not have. It's the kind of player that elevates us above these teams. Players like Afobe don't do this. The more quality we lose, and the more inferiority we replace it with, the less chance we'll have of retaining our PL status, either this year or next. Petrov is the kind of player who can come off the bench and galvanize the team.
Hopefully Freedman will buy shrewdly.
He's done next to fvck all since he's been here the odd glimpse is not enough in 3 years plus he was probably one of the highest paid players we have
For us Matty Taylor is/was a far better player than Petrov
Good riddance
Petrov has a game-changing quality which he has used and would use - however sparingly - until the end of the season. That sporadic quality could be the difference between a few draws and a few wins. That kind of quality could win playoff finals.
When the fvck was he gonna show it
I know let's shell a shit load of eddies money on someone who could't give a fvck
His best days are long gone they were gone before he even got to us

Hands up anyone that was surprised to hear Petrov was leaving the club.
Re: Petrov to Espanyol
Not me, I said it would be Petrov as soon as the news come out that someone had left the Reebok. Flash in the pan here and there but never delivered consistantly. Alot of fans took to him because he was a big name from a big club willing to come to little old Bolton.Enoch wrote:Hands up anyone that was surprised to hear Petrov was leaving the club.
I wish him well.

Am I too early with a 'feck off freedman'? Don't think I'd want promotion to the prem with a team built by dugout! It would be embarasing to say the least.

Re: Petrov to Espanyol
Depends how long a contract Warnock wants. As he's now 31 I'd be worried about committing to anything above 18 months (remembering that neither Chelsea nor Man U offer two-year contracts to thirtysomethings – do they, Ashley?), especially as his wage demands seem somewhat above our current bracket.boltonboris wrote:Probably talking half a million between now and the end of the season. We can put that on the table for Warnock if he wants him. Though, with Alonso looking alright and this Norweigen lad rumoured, I'm not sure he's needed. Especially seeing as though he's in his 30's
So how much is/was he on? ie how much of a saving is this? I'm hoping it's quite a lot. I'm also hoping we don't throw it at the first thirtysomething Premier League reject who knocks on the door.boltonboris wrote:He was last season, but not this.IggyTheDawgster wrote:Apparently he was on 45K a week. Sorry if the tone of this sounds harsh on you, Boris (I seem to recall that you're a full-back, like me but presumably better...) - it's not intended to.
As for Petrov the player, I agree with the posters who say "he could change games" but nor as much as those who say that these sporadic moments were outweighed by the negatives – initially laziness, but while of late he seems to have made much more effort tracking back, now simply wage. Even if he took a cut (and contractually that might be difficult if his appearances triggered an extension) I daresay he was on one of the highest wages in the squad – and certainly one of the highest outside the first XI.
I liked him, but not enough to pay his pension while the team struggles.

Re: Petrov to Espanyol
He had the skill, no doubt. But he just couldn't be arsed using it.
First season he was with us, at the City game Coyle subbed him in the second half. The City fans gave him a standing ovation. Three quarters of the Etihad up on their feet clapping as he went off. We were just glad to see the back of the useless sack of shite.
Still, we'll miss him when we see who Dougie gets as a replacement. Probably some promising young talent currently struggling in the Wrexham reserves or something.

Re: Petrov to Espanyol
Petrov is a sh*thouse he would shy away from any 50/50 challenge that came his way. We needed to get rid of some players, especially midfielders. How can anybody be surprised hes gone. He will be on the biggest wages at the club and is producing nothing. Isnt the Wylde a left mid? Surley give him a chance to see what impact he can bring from the bench. When he was good, he was class but that was few and far between we need somebody who will be consistant and offer more. Interested to see who will be out the door next!

Re: Petrov to Espanyol
Just watched the '93 video on the other thread. I'd forgotten just how much David Lee tore them apart that night. I've never seen Petrov come even close to that sort of impact for us, not even once. For me he is a luxury player that performed very occasionally, usually in good times and not when you need his sort to step up. He can cross a ball, but we've never had anyone to latch on to them; so what's the point? Might as well save the wages and see if Dougie can do anything with it.

Re: Petrov to Espanyol
Fair point but in what game are we ever in a position being "0-0" with 20 mins left? We would have to bring him on 5 mins into every matchJugs wrote:I'm in agreement with what the league demands - but sometimes a game needs that extra spark and quality to win a 0-0. We don't have to start him but I'd rather keep him till the end of the year, even if he is on a fair bit of money.
