Re: Worthy's better class of transfer thread
He scored about a million at youth levels, too. But then so did Paul Moulden. And the last formerly-loaned-to-Eredivisie Premier League player we borrowed, Miyaichi-san, didn't excel. BUT! If it's not merely a dangerously undercooked old chicken-leg of a story, I'd be quite excited to borrow John Alberto Fernando Andres Luigi Olof Guidetti (which would surely mean the end for one of our many strikers).thebish wrote:Guidetti scored 20 goals in 23 games during his loan spell in Rotterdam last term....

Yeah, I know and I agreeDave Sutton's barnet wrote:But Barnsley are very much the poor relations, CAPS. I'd be intrigued to know how we measure up against the likes of Leicester and Cardiff ("terribly in the league" - A Wag).CAPSLOCK wrote:To those who don't 'get' finances in this league and say our 'runofthemillers' like Knight and Ricketts aren't on big money, Barnsleys wage bill last season was 6.2 million - about 4k a week
Those were two i could put my paws on
We'll be spending way more than plenty, tho, and our wages are out of the range of the vast majority of teams in this league
And if you were going to push the boat out, you know as a bit of a gamble, a mid ranking/paying teams 'big signing' is not going to be Ricketts or Knight, is it
And this is our problem
We will struggle to shift the players Freedman doesn't want cos the clubs who would fancy them won't be able to pay them

He's had a spell in the Championship. He's had a spell on the Continent.
His progression should see him playing for somebody in the Premier League next, I reckon.
Unfortunate really, as I believe he's a good 'un

If you are happy to just assume 'wage bill' probably means just the playing squad which was probably 25 I reckon we could make quite a teambobo the clown wrote:I took it, on first reading, as that £6.2m = £4,000pw for the squad.Prufrock wrote:So he's £750 per week out? About 4k a week
Otherwise, cool. Almost 19% out is neither here nor there.
You have a career mapped out in the public sector I guess.

They do actually have journalists, which drags up the hit-rate.throwawayboltonian wrote:Wow they're higher than I thought they would beDave Sutton's barnet wrote:They're not the worst for it: see the Football Transfer League stats.throwawayboltonian wrote:Isn't that how The Sun sports works? Last January, as this amusing infographic from the excellent Bootiful Game shows, TalkSport pumped out 37 stories without identifying a single successful move.

He'd probably still be our best player, sadly, but I doubt he fits the "lower the age, lower the wage" zeitgeist...

Re: Worthy's better class of transfer thread
That may be, but we have a lot of players with talent on the ball like Eidur (and many with more pace than he will have now) who aren't helping us in this division.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:He'd probably still be our best player, sadly, but I doubt he fits the "lower the age, lower the wage" zeitgeist...
You've got to first win the physical battle, then play...
The thing is we're not winning the physical battle a lot of the time, so the second part is of less importance.
