Re: Worthy's better class of transfer thread
I've watched Jedinak plenty of times with the Australian national team. Big, tough lad who can score from distance and will pick up his fair share of yellow cards. Plays for Australia as one of two CDMs and is a consitant, solid performer. Fits the bill of Dougie's combative and championship hardened player.
I wonder who would drop down the pecking order to squeeze him in though?

Andrews is apparently in for Achilles surgery, so that could set him back a few months. Got Stu & Vela back though, so not sure it's an area that needs strengthening.
Please don't buy for buyings sake.. We need a centre back and we should be good to go.

Re: Worthy's better class of transfer thread
It does seem strange going in for a CM with both Holden and Vela just coming back.
Re: Worthy's better class of transfer thread
according to dougie, holden won't be back to full fitness till the summer, while vela is a completely unproven nobody. so it makes full sense. sorry for any shit typing -- i'm drunk.

Dougie might also be planning for when Spearing goes back. Agree with Boris that a CB is a priority. I'd still be happier with another full back too.

I have high hopes for Vela but he's v young & inexperienced.Sponge wrote:according to dougie, holden won't be back to full fitness till the summer, while vela is a completely unproven nobody. so it makes full sense. sorry for any shit typing -- i'm drunk.
Holden, let's pray he can recover fully but that remains to be seen, as does whether he stays if he does. I think it's fair to say this season will be bits & bobs.
It's clear Spearing will not be kept as he's used hit & miss ... also he won't want to sign for a 2nd Div team.
If Andrews, who I'm still coming to terms with, is also due surgery then we are a bit wanting there. Plus this guy is a Dougie man already. You sign a good player when you can, I suppose. However we have other priorities ... getting Sordell playing, or out & replaced, is one for me.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Re: Worthy's better class of transfer thread
We've struggled in midfield with the combative side this season.
Andrews has done well for me, but if he's injured we are in trouble.
Spearing tries and he's grown on me, but he's not ours and I still feel he isn't quite the answer.
Far too much to ask Holden and Vela to be our only choices for the rest of the season.
We've never really replaced Muamba.
So it makes sense. But can't see Palace thinking so!

Re: Worthy's better class of transfer thread
Where do they get these stories from?? I think we have enough stumps up front before taking on another one.Sky Sports understands that Marlon King is one of a host of Birmingham's players told they can find new clubs, due to Blues' financial situation.
The 32-year-old, who has scored over 30 goals since he joined Birmingham in 2011 from Midlands rivals Coventry City, is currently top-scorer for the club.
But Birmingham are struggling hugely financially and are understood to have told a number of players that if they find a new club they would be able to leave.
And Sky Sports understands that King could leave on a free transfer, despite having 18 months left on his current deal.
While King is settled at St Andrew's and is happy, a host of clubs have been alerted to the fact he could be available.
Former club Wigan, Norwich, Cardiff, Blackburn, Bolton and Nottingham Forest are thought to be monitoring his situation.
Along with King is it thought that the futures of big names such as Jack Butland, Nathan Redmond, Chris Burke and Nikola Zigic are very much up in the air.

He's a good player. As good as owt we have. But I don't want us paying people like him good money.

If that sex case comes to Bolton, I for one will never attend another match until such time as he's gone. I can't stand the word and never use it, but that man is a complete and utter c***.

I'd put in a cheeky bid for Redmond

Let's hope this is the names-from-a-bag bullshit it seems. I've had my say on King last September. Some 'characters' you forgive when they're on your team, but this one would leave an ugly turd-shaped lump in the throat.

While on loan to Hull City, King was alleged to have headbutted teammate Dean Windass in a casino in Scarborough. Hull City stated that the matter had been dealt with internally, and both players remained with the club.[47] Windass later described the incident as a "storm in a teacup".
King has convictions for 14 offences, dating from 1997.[48][49] He received fines, driving bans, community service sentences, a rehabilitation order and orders to pay compensation on convictions including: theft from a person and from a car, criminal damage, and attempting to obtain property by deception; fraudulent use of vehicle licence document, driving without insurance, speeding, drink driving; a wounding incident while playing amateur football, and two cases involving assault of young women rejecting his advances in the Soho area of London.
Two cases led to imprisonment. In May 2002 he received an eighteen-month prison sentence for receiving stolen goods, in relation to a BMW convertible that he was found driving. He was found not guilty of a charge of assaulting a police officer in a related case. His solicitor commented that "His reputation will be tarnished forever, whatever success he achieves, he'll always be referred to in a Tyson-esque way as someone who has had a criminal past and that is a considerable penalty."[50][51] Gillingham continued to pay his salary while he was in jail, and supported in his appeal, which resulted in the sentence being reduced to nine months, and he was released on licence after five months, returning to the Gillingham team within two days of his release.[52]
In December 2008, again in the Soho area, King was arrested on suspicion of punching a 20 year-old female university student in the face, causing a broken nose and split lip for which she was treated in hospital. He was later convicted of sexual assault and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and sentenced to 18 months in prison and placed on the Sex Offender Register for seven years.[2] Wigan Athletic immediately initiated the cancellation of his contract.[18] King’s agent, Tony Finnigan, said he was confident that his client would find a club on his release, which was on 29 July 2010,[53] and accused the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) of failing to offer support. Gordon Taylor, the chief executive of the PFA, said that the PFA did not represent players when they have broken the law and been convicted on non-footballing matters. It would support members with anger management or other issues if approached but no approach had been made by King.[15] After his release, he made an appeal against the conviction which was unsuccessful.
