I'm sure I read somewhere that pheasants need grit to help them digest, so they spend a long time on roads where they can get said grit. Or something like that. Don't know if there's any truth in that.
There's a touch of truth in it, insofar as fowl use grit in the gullet as an aid to digestion - but that's not why they get run over. They get run over because basically they are thick. Crows don't get run over because they are clever.

No idea about the lack of road sense, but this one was pottering around the hard shoulder and then diverted, walking straight into the inside lane as I passed. As I said, couldn't believe the damage it did.

Did it live ??
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Now got to shop round for a new one or blow my £400 excess on my insurance.
I hope you ate it.
Sadly not. I was on the way to the airport for a few days in Budapest when it happened. It would have been a bit smelly when I got back.
It would have been okay - I believe you are supposed to hang pheasant for some three weeks until it is 'gamey'.

Haven feckin' Holidays. Just seen an advert on TV and they've used some anodyne watered down version of Echo Beach as the soundtrack. Hope they go bust.

Ice.
Slipped on a patch this morning, comedy fall, gave myself 6.5 for the landing but lost points for my legs being apart. Passing schoolkids found it highly amusing, i just pretended like i meant to do it cos im that fcking cool, and carried on walking.

Well done for not landing flat on your back. When you do a Dick Emery over the edge of a flagstone, do you go back a pace and glare at it like "WTF are you doing there?" Yes, I've done that.

On the trip you have a chance of saving yourself with the jog and arm waving. Ice on the other hand is deadly stuff. I, who walk on it three months a year, know this. Some falls appear to defy the law of gravity and throw you up before the big crash. It is unpleasant stuff to land on - wet, cold and extremely hard. One moment you are walking along enjoying the brisk fresh air and the next second you've taken the pearler of a lifetime, with no memory of how you got from one state to the next. So take out there all of you.

Ooh, ooh! Sir! Sir! Monty did an eggcorn, Sir!

For once, Green minor, we should all turn a blind eye. The poor lad may still have a touch of concussion.
