Re: Everton In The Cup
I know we lost but there are a lot of positives we can take from that. Outplaying Everton for 80 odd minutes it's a significant achievement and it's hopefully something we can build on. Great to see Sordell getting goals, and both Holden and Vela getting game time. Hopefully those two are on the bench for our next Championship game.

Re: Everton In The Cup
Agreed there were some good things to hang our hat on but they had more possession more shots on target and nearly twice as many corners.. one of which lead to the winner I think Outplayed for 80 minutes is a bit optimistic on that basisSmokinFrazier wrote:I know we lost but there are a lot of positives we can take from that. Are we in League 2 yet - Three seasons and we'll be away to Chesham
Re: Everton In The Cup
Thought we played very good today the midfield controlled large portions of the game pity we let that late goal as we deserved something from the game
Vela played excellent today and deserves to be at least on the subs bench if not starting
Sordell has got to start against Watford KD has had his day it's time for a new breed. Diesel gave us movement and spees today oh and he can score!
Hopefully we can start playing as well as this in the Championship onwards and upwards!

Loads of Everton in the home ends, not being discreet either. I fcking hate them. We played really well, so unlucky to lose that.

I'd be hanging my hat on the fact that I'm not a thieving, shellsuit wearing, hubcap stealing, polo necked, spotty, delusional, squealing, talentless, uneducated, didn't see my team play in Europe despite the fact we qualified, worthless nice person from Knotty Ash.norm the jedi wrote:

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

It's all my fault......I asked, with 5 minutes to go, about the possibility of going to the replay.

Was their goal the same way Gardner scored late on for Sunderland?

A decent run-down, with player ratings, from one of the match-goers would be much appreciated.

when are we actually gonna do this building on the positives that people keep talking about?SmokinFrazier wrote:I know we lost but there are a lot of positives we can take from that. Outplaying Everton for 80 odd minutes it's a significant achievement and it's hopefully something we can build on.

Re: Everton In The Cup
probably when we have a 25 goal a season striker because at the mo we seem to be in most games enough to win without converting good opportunities or developing half chances from feck all.. we keep hitting the goalie..thebish wrote:when are we actually gonna do this building on the positives that people keep talking about?SmokinFrazier wrote:I know we lost but there are a lot of positives we can take from that. Re: Everton In The Cup
Those who say 'what progress' only needed to turn up today and watch.
Superb performance against what, 5th best team in the land? Certainly top 8.
We deserved more than we got.
Vela, Alonso, Lee and Sordell all excellent. Sordell noticeably tired late on.
Eagles needs dropping though, he was awful.
We are getting there. A rugged no nonsense centre half and we may have won today. Was clear how we struggled when Felaini went up top. Couldn't handle his physicality for the last few minutes.
Today we had shape. A system. A pattern of play. We passed it kept it, moved and played.
Excellent.
But there is also the fact that Everton gave us more time on the ball to do all that than say Millwall did.
We need to translate that performance into the hustle and bustle of the championship, where teams come specifically to stop us playing.

Re: Everton In The Cup
Lonergan, 7, one excellent save, generally good communication, thought he might have claimed the ball before their winner but was at the other end and not seen it backTANGODANCER wrote:A decent run-down, with player ratings, from one of the match-goers would be much appreciated.
Ricketts, 6 worked hard but was on the back foot a lot
Alonso 9, superb touches, biggest attacking threat for much of it, defensively solid
Knight, 6 Ok, never fills you with confidence
Ream, 7 played well
Spearing, 7 as you'd expect, good 2nd half
Vela, 6 , solid but unspectacular, 80 mins good effort
Eagles 6, couple of runs but not much else
CYL, 8, used the ball well and gave Baines a game
Pratley, 6 worked hard made runs but lacks real quality
Sordell, 8 played well alone up front, some really nice touches and sharp for a tidy finish you wouldn't have seen from DN or KD
Good all round performance really, we deserved to win on 2nd half display but lack of a cutting edge and defensive frailty strikes again. not far off being a decent team I think. Middle 60 mins best i've seen from Bolton for a long time.

Similar, only, when the ball came out to Gardner he had the time, space and requisite talent to pick out the top corner. Today's was more of a centre half's nose-bleed effort.Athers wrote:Was their goal the same way Gardner scored late on for Sunderland?

Re: Everton In The Cup
I would dispute Pratley lacking quality when considering his work in the build up for our goal.
Tremendous performance from the whole side. Criticism of Eagles is harsh, his ball across the box in the second half was crying out for a goal if Sordell had gone for broke and attacked it.
Playing against a Premier League side really does seem to suit our playing style, with a bit more structure when compared to the more hectic nature of the Championship.
Alonso was immense, and Vela did a very good job on restricting Fellaini's influence.
Everton fans a real classless bunch though, suppose the only saving grace is avoiding having to pay a fortune to go to that dump.

Re: Everton In The Cup
So proud of the lads today. 1 to 11 they all worked hard and for long periods dominated a team with Champs League ambitions. Alonso MotM for me but ran close by many. Ream & Vela both gave assured performances. Can't agree on Eagles, he's not back at the level he was at earlier in the season, but he worked b hard today in a difficult role.
On a negative note - Are there a bigger bunch of to55ers than Everton fans? Every time we play em, there's bother of some sort.
