Then, we'd be insured.ChrisC wrote:You can't blame the club on this really. I would think there is a verbal offer of a deal if he gets back in the team and no more injuries between now and season end.DJBlu wrote:http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11672/8447810?
Stu Holden is not going to rush signing a new contract. Meaning he could be a free agent in the summer.
Will be a kick in the teeth if he doesn't resign.
Imagine giving him a new 3 year deal and then the unthinkable happens!

I don't think that on the whole that clubs are insured in that way anymore.

Interesting that we've extended Eaves' contract. Dougie must see something there. I've only seen him once and he were shite, but he must have done something right at Bristol and on the training ground. Which can only be a good thing. He must be one of those ones eager to improve that Dougie likes, which is good.
Re: Worthy's better class of transfer thread
If we want Holden to sign a new deal we perversely need him to come back and play reasonably, but not as good as he was before the injury.
If he comes back and is the player we remember, the offer will come and we've been around long enough to know that he will take it. Klinsmann wants him in the Premier League for one.
Then after re-signing he can return to his level and we'll get promoted, obviously!

I'd still prefer us to offer 12 months on the same terms, but then, I'm not a business man!

Didn't summat similar happen with Sean Davis?ChrisC wrote:Imagine giving him a new 3 year deal and then the unthinkable happens!DJBlu wrote:http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11672/8447810?

Andy Walker springs more readily to mind.
He may never be the player we remember, he may well be. Thats the gamble of football. Although I wouldn't be wanting for us to be handing out a Sean Davis-sized contract to him, regardless, considering our current impecunious position.

You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

Adding to the rumour, according to "sources" Mark Davies has signed a new contract?

Re: Worthy's better class of transfer thread
I suppose there are Premiership clubs to whom (see what I did there ?) a 2yr contract at better terms than we can offer would be peanuts ... especially as next year's money levels shoot up.
They can watch him closely the next few months and see if it's worth giving it a go.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Re: Worthy's better class of transfer thread
One of the presenters on SSN said Mark Davies had agreed a new deal at the Reebok...then it flashed up at bottom of page about Eaves' new contract (the presenter, that scottish bloke, also said Davies' deal was 4 and half years so same as Eaves.)mrkint wrote:Adding to the rumour, according to "sources" Mark Davies has signed a new contract?
Id just put it down to crossed wires mate but would be pleasing if true.

2015. So would be an odd one, though not particularly unwelcome.
It may just be crossed-wires with Eaves, yes.

Re: Worthy's better class of transfer thread
An answer to the Holden problem is surely a one year deal? If he gets injured again, we don't lose out much but if he gets fit again, we can extend the deal further. I'm not sure his agent would be happy but it suits us and it's fair to Holden.

Re: Worthy's better class of transfer thread
Depends on if he's happy with the wages. Being devil's advocate... he's just coming back from injury now, in the summer we'll know if he's getting back to his best. If he extends for us now he may not get very good wages/bonuses, if he runs down the contract and gets fully fit he'll be in a much better place to get decent wages/bonuses either from us or someone else. Also, players rarely want a one-year contract, more years = more money, he's getting on a bit now, he may want a 3-year+ deal. Having said that we'd be crazy to give it to him in the next few days.SmokinFrazier wrote:An answer to the Holden problem is surely a one year deal? I'm thinking the timing of the recovery/contract almost force him to leave unless he's some kind of good samaritan. Bit of a gamble one way or another.
The players you fail to sign never lose you any money.
