Michael Kightly also made him look shite. As did most who came up against him, teenage centre-halves aside, until very recently. I've not seen a lot, but most accounts have said he's been one of our better players recently, let's hope that continues.

Seen a few Everton fans say Alonso was the best left back on the field on Saturday.
Re: Everton In The Cup
On Saturday I stayed behind to applaud the lad off the field after one of the best left-back performances I've seen from a Bolton player since.......... the days of Barry Cowdrill, but it's fair for people to make a negative assessment of his overall contribution to the club so far. He cost a fair bit and you have to ask whether his contribution on the pitch over 3 years is enough to justify the time and money put in. I'd say not at this point.
If he scores 15 goals from defence and then hits a winner at Wembley to take us up, I'll happily reassess.

We'll be moaning that he's out of position too frequently if he did that.Lost Leopard Spot wrote:You don't want much then!LeverEnd wrote:On Saturday I stayed behind to applaud the lad off the field after one of the best left-back performances I've seen from a Bolton player since.......... the days of Barry Cowdrill, but it's fair for people to make a negative assessment of his overall contribution to the club so far. Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

c'mon - he's a lot to live up to if he wants to take his place in the Bolton Left Backs Hall of Fame!!!Lost Leopard Spot wrote:You don't want much then!LeverEnd wrote:On Saturday I stayed behind to applaud the lad off the field after one of the best left-back performances I've seen from a Bolton player since.......... the days of Barry Cowdrill, but it's fair for people to make a negative assessment of his overall contribution to the club so far. Seriously though, if he's leaving in the summer, he would have to do something beyond spectacular to be remembered as a good signing and contributor to the cause considering the money spent on him. I'd wish him well of course as he's got talent and seems to be very respectful to BWFC ahead of a possible big move. Definitely no Stubbs-like behaviour!thebish wrote:c'mon - he's a lot to live up to if he wants to take his place in the Bolton Left Backs Hall of Fame!!!Lost Leopard Spot wrote:You don't want much then!LeverEnd wrote:On Saturday I stayed behind to applaud the lad off the field after one of the best left-back performances I've seen from a Bolton player since.......... the days of Barry Cowdrill, but it's fair for people to make a negative assessment of his overall contribution to the club so far. I wasn't joking about Bazza C however and if Alonso is to leave I'd like to see him play in a permed mullet wig and fake mexican tache combo as a homage to a cult terrace hero. We'll be safe in 16th place by then.
