Because thats how the players form has dictated. For once I don't think the opinion regarding Alonso has been divided, between both fans and management, but now he is our starting left back and he's doing a sterling job.Abdoulaye's Twin wrote:Why is it that after 3 or 4 decent games a player, so shit for the preceding 2.5 years people couldn't wait to get rid of, is now massively important to us and ace? if Dougie had a replacement lined up and it made financial sense then why not get rid? Middlesbrough got George fcuking Friend for 100k
I'd hazard a guess they're on way less than the 20k a week Alonso is said to be looking for

BIg? He's only 5'8. Definitely black, though.
Re: Worthy's better class of transfer thread
I'm absolutely thrilled...................by the exit of Afobe. Had we done nothing else, that in itself would have been enough to satisfy me.
It seems to me that Dougie has a plan and one that will take until next season to start to work fully. He has a good few to clear out of the club now and whilst I know nothing of the new recruits, they all seem to be highly spoken of elsewhere. Onwards and upwards.

He certainly is pocket sized.Sponge wrote:Big? He's only 5'8. Definitely black, though.boltonboris wrote:I'm a big advocate of having a big black guy in front of the back 4. This signing pleases me.
Interestingly there is no debate, nodifficulty knowing where his position is. It's the 'Campo' job.... sitting in front of the back 4 .... defensively minded.
Gregus signed saying "I'm happy DM or central mf". I think we know how DF sees the plan.
With a to be proven return of Holden as well as, for now, Spearing still there it does seem like there are a few options. Add Mavies & Dratley and Julie Andrews can go & have that achilles op.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

So, you'd rather keep someone that isn't keen on staying and doesn't have a stake in our success this season any more, who also could very well turn to shit again on Saturday. Over someone that wants to be here that Dougie wants?wanderers_on_tour wrote:

If Dougie had someone lined up and the financial side stacked up then we definitely should have gotten rid. If not, then yes, we keep him and hope he continues to perform.

..that wasn't part of the question which I quoted mate. Tbh I don't have an opinion either way as to his replacement as we know nothing of the potential candidates (outside of academy graduates) so cannot being to compare or contrast. I'd also go on to state that we don't have any concrete proof that Alonso doesn't want to be here, apart from the usual contractual hard ball, and perhaps Doguie feels that if Alonso's form continues (which as you said isn't a given) than he may be willing, and it indeed work out financially sound to just offer Alonso a new deal on the higher wages (again merely speculation) that he is set to be after.Abdoulaye's Twin wrote:So, you'd rather keep someone that isn't keen on staying and doesn't have a stake in our success this season any more, who also could very well turn to shit again on Saturday. Medo and Holden is the most confident ive felt about a midfield possibly playing 442 here for a while. Would love to see dougie try it because I think a Sordell and Ngog partnership could really work personally.

Lets see this Medo guy play first.Jez wrote:Medo and Holden is the most confident ive felt about a midfield possibly playing 442 here for a while. Would love to see dougie try it because I think a Sordell and Ngog partnership could really work personally.
Apparently he's not played a game for a fair while as he was refusing to sign a new contract and Partisan left him out for that, then they had the winter break.
So it might be a while till he's fully match fit.

Fair enough, but I'm still assuming hes the messiah and were getting promoted until we lose again.BWFC_Insane wrote:Lets see this Medo guy play first.Jez wrote:Medo and Holden is the most confident ive felt about a midfield possibly playing 442 here for a while. Take him a while to settle in. No rush.

Re: Worthy's better class of transfer thread
Going off the B.N., apart from possibly Craig Dawson/ Craig Davies I doubt we'll see anything of the new lads for a while yet. Apparently, a shade too soon for Kamara. Mark Davies is back in full training and Wheats is scheduled for the development squad against City tonight.

Plus Holden gradually coming back, and Vela - so we dont really need to rush the new lads too much.

The most pleasing thing about this window is Afobe's loan being cut short. I feel like our attack has suddenly got less shit with him going. Now just to stick Kevin Davies on the bench and make Sordell our number 1 striker, in addition to a couple of the new boys and I'm quite optimistic.

Re: Worthy's better class of transfer thread
The only one who can make Sordell our number-one striker is Sordell. Not long ago folk were saying the same about N'gog (even Afobe) . I'm hoping that what Dougie has done with these new players is to make competition for places a reality. Time will, no doubt, tell.Gail Platz wrote:The most pleasing thing about this window is Afobe's loan being cut short. I feel like our attack has suddenly got less shit with him going. 100% agree. All our strikers are signed to us now. Feels like a good window for us if we can afford the wages. I can actually understand everything Dougie says/does without having to strip out all the fantastics and finding there's nothing there.Gail Platz wrote:The most pleasing thing about this window is Afobe's loan being cut short. Alonso had a decent game in the cup so perhaps he's twigged that he's playing for his next contract. Hopefully he can continue that level of performance away at Barnsley, etc. We'll lose him in the summer but it's easier to get a decent replacement in the summer what with contracts running out.
The players you fail to sign never lose you any money.
