Re: Today I'm angry about.....
After attending a few meetings I was wary of what you are chatting about. I solved that by taking in a little tape recorder that I normally used for making notes during the day. I'd stick it up on the table and ask if anyone had objections to it being activated (although it already was).

This makes me angry. Because I know elderly people who struggle to heat their homes. Because I work with people who have young children and have to ration their heating, despite having a full time job.
It's completely immoral IMO. Greed is not how our society should be fuelled, well not in my book anyhow.
For me it's about time massive profits at the expense of the British Public were brought into check.

In other circumstances, you'd have to congratulate them on their business and the profits they make.BWFC_Insane wrote:http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-21598504

However, this a natural commodity sold to a captive market.. It's fvckin wrong.
Thing is though, the government will finally do something about it, so to fvck everyone off, British Gas will make a shit load of people redundant next year to make sure the board members get the same dividends as the previous year. Then when people go mad about, they'll say: "It's your own fault for stopping us being greedy bastards"

Indeed. IF as a company you design and manufacture a product and sell it for massive profit. Hats off to you.boltonboris wrote:In other circumstances, you'd have to congratulate them on their business and the profits they make.BWFC_Insane wrote:http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-21598504

However, there are instances where being driven by profit and greed are just wrong. This is one of them.
This is where my politics lie, capitalism and the free market is what we have. It's an imperfect system, fuelled by greed. But there probably isn't a better one.
However, we don't have to let that govern every area of life, and the private sector motivations, does NOT necessarily mean a benefit to society in all areas.
The shambolic running of the certain train routes is another example. We are suffering rather than benefitting.

Re: Today I'm angry about.....
More baffled than angry but....
Three weeks ago the oven part of our cooker packed up. We've had it a few years so had to buy a new cooker. To get the size and colour wanted we've waited three weeks. The product is a Belling and was delivered yesterday. Despite it costing us the best part of £500 they don't provide anything but a grill pan these days (at one time you got roasting tins etc), but okay, fair enough, if that's what you get, that's what you get. The grill pan has no handle. Rang up the supplier to be told:
"Oh, health and safety recommend not using a handle; no one provides them. They're not considered necessary".
"Well we've used one all our lives without problems. Why is it suddenly considered not the case?"
More of the same health and safety, etc, etc, etc.............
"Okay, then can you tell me why our instruction manaul says we can buy a handle, grip, or a full grill pan unit as seperate items from Belling? If they're a health and safety risk, why are they being sold at all?
More of the same but, since it's the manaufacturers decision I couldn't really rant at the local supplier. All sounds like a bullshit excercise to get you to spend more money. Wife's just had to go out and buy a new grill pan....with handle. Not happy at all.

Come to think of it, ours doesn't have a handle.TANGODANCER wrote:More baffled than angry but....

But then would it fit in the oven with a handle?

I used to work for a FTSE 100 water utility company which needed to spend a considerable amount of money every year to maintain and upgrade its infrastructure.BWFC_Insane wrote: Indeed. IF as a company you design and manufacture a product and sell it for massive profit. Hats off to you.

The fact is that a decision was made a long time ago that we did not want to have very large capital investment in our utilities on the public balance sheet - and indeed it is perhaps a good job it isn't there now.
This being the case, these industries have to deliver a fair, modest (in % terms), reliable profit to private investors.
That seems to be what is happening here. If the margin were growing, I would join the outraged, but the fact is that consumption is going up and because the modest margin is staying the same, so are profits.

They've probably been sued after a handle fell off and somebody got burnt or something, so they let you buy them at your own discretion

Re: Today I'm angry about.....
I'll tell you why TD. Because it's a Glen Dimplex product that's why. They are totally shite. I had a range cooker just under seven years old that the element went on and they lied through their teeth in order not to replace it and to get me to buy new on their insurance (i.e. get me to fork out £800 to their £200). Glen Dimplex own Belling. And what's worse Belling is manufactured by Beko.TANGODANCER wrote:More baffled than angry but....

You might have heard of Beko, they are a Turkish firm that have managed to slaughter a fair few people in this country through a) fridge freezers that burst into flame and b) carbon dioxide poisoning through their ovens. Apparently the carbon monoxide is produced when the grill doors are not closed properly (you might have read about it in newspapers - they are liars, and are trying to duck responsibility, literally getting away with murder: they were told to issue notices of recall, but didn't. ) - I don't know if that is the direct relationship between them and you not having a handle, but I wouldn't be surprised.

I don't know. But when they produce fridge freezers and grill ovens that kill people I think people ought to know about that.mummywhycantieatcrayons wrote:Just a thought, LLS, but are Beko at all litigious when it comes to policing what is said about them on the internet?!

Walking down a quiet country 'lane' - not much more than a rocky stream with walls either side, when me and dog are assaulted by thirty odd landrovers. Cun*s all. Feck off and die horribly.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.
