Re: Today I'm neither Angry nor Happy about....
Well LGM, I was thinking firstly that neither East Kent nor Bexhill could be remotely classified as a city and secondly that Dundee or Leicester could not be considered even slightly more cultured than anywhere else. I was thinking that if Penporthgwarro's Women's Institute invited Ned Kelly's great-great-neice to give a talk on patchwork quilting I would be tempted to give it to them rather than any of the above. I might, of course, be committing the sin of being a culture nazi (with a small n).Little Green Man wrote:Don't know much about Leicester but the other three (I presume East Kent means Margate etc.) have invested significantly in the arts recently in (so far successful) bids to regenerate themselves.Lost Leopard Spot wrote: East Kent

The answer is they are all potential winners of UK City of Culture 2017.

But Dundee won't be in the UK in 2017.

So is Chester .... which IS a city with some class. However, I understood that growth & regeneration were part of the aims, which Chester is hardly in need of, generally.Little Green Man wrote:Don't know much about Leicester but the other three (I presume East Kent means Margate etc.) have invested significantly in the arts recently in (so far successful) bids to regenerate themselves.Lost Leopard Spot wrote: East Kent

AND it's pretty close, regrettably, to L'pool, which had it only 5 or 6 years ago.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Liverpool was not merely the UK City of Culture. Oh no. Liverpool was European Capital of Culture no less. On a far higher plane than the one Chester is seeking. Although it's a crying shame that Liverpool has always been denied its rightful title of European City of Justice!bobo the clown wrote:So is Chester .... which IS a city with some class. Wayne Rooney maybe leaving the rags. I couldn't care less.
I had to muster up more care than this story deserves just to even bring myself to type that I couldn't care less.

Oh my. Someone best go and check on poor Sir Alex. He's probably completely devastated now, what with that nasty referee and now his good friend Wayne maybe going.
Quick someone tell 5 Live, they need some more phone in's. And whilst you're at it, get onto Cameron, we need a day, nay a week of national mourning.
Cancel football too.
Ferguson must be allowed a few years to recover from this. His very core must be shattered.

There's snow on the ground! Admittedly not much, but it is the middle of March ffs. I want some sunshine and warmth.

There was white rime on the lawn this morning, the bird bath was a solid lump of ice, the outside tap is frozen solid, had to defrost the garage lock to get in and that east wind is aboslutely bitter. Oh, and the snowdrops and daffodils are coming out. "Oh to be in England...."Lost Leopard Spot wrote:There's snow on the ground! Admittedly not much, but it is the middle of March ffs. Oh, and some hopeful snowflakes are just starting to fall......

Re: Today I'm neither Angry nor Happy about....
I've posted on another thread somewhere that my Dad has dementia and that this brings trials and tribulations in various ways. Its not all doom and gloom though, as on occasion his condition results in him saying things that are, well, just funny.
One such case happened recently at bed time.
A heated row ensued between my Mum and Dad, as my Dad was adamant that he was wearing his pyjamas, but he was in fact still wearing the grubby clothes he'd been gardening in all day. Finally my Mum pursuaded him to change into his pyjamas and they went to bed.
About 10 minutes after the light was turned off, my Dad said, "Now what am I supposed to do?"

Hope is what keeps us going.
