Sounds about right. That's how I read the situation too. I can't see any other reason for him getting sent off. He didn't want to go either. He had to be pushed off the pitch by one of his team mates who wanted to get on with the game 'cos there were only seconds to go. As it happens, the sending off used up all of the "extra time" anyway and play didn't re-start. :D
Exactly, thanks for that Ashley! Just what we needed ina tense finale.

Showed him on SSN shouting at the ref and selfishly refusing to leave. I'd hammer the moron if I were Poyet.

Didn't see any kicking. Kicking off verbally yes.
was it a straight red or a second yellow?? if it was a straight red - it'd surely have to be summat pretty offensive given what footballers seem to get away with nowadays...
Straight red.
Hope is what keeps us going.

So you've just joined today to bad-mouth a manager who's taken us through eight games without defeat?

I don't think Brighton were that impressed by the ref. They had a call for a penalty turned down in the 2nd half and there were quite a few strange decisions by the ref throughout that mostly went our way.

Towards the end, Poyet had a right good go at the ref over something and not long after the lad got sent off.

I guess he accused the ref of cheating or something similar, presumably accompanied by a few expletives that the ref didn't appreciate.
Hope is what keeps us going.

Apparently he was sent off for trying to trip the ref up.

Straight red, minimum 3 match ban... he's there 2nd top scorer behind the already injured Craig Mackail-Smith with there game in hand against Barnsley coming up on Tuesday.

Best reason for a sending off, ever!

That Buckley was a disgrace when he came on, going down every time somebody breathed near him.

According to the rules, a red card can be shown for: "Using offensive, insulting or abusive language or gestures".

About time a player was sent off for that.

It's someone who knows he should know better. There's no need to ban anyone, the point's been made.

I just hope those smug fckers enjoying being right about Dougie don't end up looking like pricks if we lose five on the trot and BL3 is back in all his glory.

I agree. There was a match on the other day and Delph for Villa had a foul given against him, and as the camera zoomed in on his face, you could clearly lip reason what he was saying to the ref. Needless to say, it wasn't nice. This shouldn't be allowed, ever. Referees should be respected by the players, just like they are in every other sport. Why it's tolerated in football is beyond me.

Hopefully he gets a lengthy ban.

Great news that Brighton have lost a key man, but also that someone seems to have been sent off for verbal abuse. About time. Among the joy over this week's shenanigans at Old Trafford, the worst news was that Ferdinand got away with his aggressive clapping in the ref's face. Utterly despicable example to set.

The Ref's cause isn't helped by idiots like Ferdinand being seen by a global audience ironically applauding in the Ref's face after getting dumped out of the Champion's League earlier this week, only to get away without any punishment.
Hope is what keeps us going.

I have punched people playing rugby and been caught by the ref and sent off. The bans have been anything from a couple of weeks to a couple of months, depending upon the mitigation

Never have I abused an official but the ones who I know who have, straight 6 months ban minimum.

Rugby league or union, Jaffka?

I ask out of genuine enquiry. I deplore abuse of the referee and admire rugby's restraint, but it has a slight whiff of class-based knowing-thy-place. The end (respect) might justify the historical means, if you see what I mean, but it's possible to make a case for football - the "game for gentlemen played by hooligans" - being something of a two-fingers to this country's class divisions and attempts to keep down the poor ('cos Rooney's a chav, right?)

It's possible to make a case, but I haven't really done it there... :D

Anyone noticing a similarity between a certain postcode's posts and BS3? Forgotten password maybe? :conf:
He seems more like a parody of BL3 with that kind of negativity around now and mentioning mick mccarthy everywhere
