I liked the bit from DF on the FLS about "controlling the game without the ball". However we do it controlling the game at home is a good thing

You know what I liked most about Dougie today?

Brighton were well on top, they'd changed system and stuck Orlandi on the left to exploit the flank as we were really narrow. Freedman called Lennie and Curtis off the bench for a proper get together and we made 2 subs that won us the points.

You would never have seen Coyle doing that. Not in a million years. Even if he did, his assistants would've started dribbling and putting cones around each other whilst clapping.

Bodes well.
Which one was Coyle's defence man? Steve Davis? Should never work again!

This ashley Barnes fella who got sent off will get an extended ban apparently (more then a 3 match) I'm guessing it'll be 5 or 6 which works out well for us as it leaves them even shorter up front.

If he's found guilty, which I think is indisputable, then he's probably facing a lengthier ban than 6 games. Di Canio was banned for 11 games and even though that was more blatant, it's still a big no-no to do anything to the ref. Referees wanted Di Canio to be banned for a lot longer too, so maybe Barnes will be turned into an example.

The longer it is, the better, anyway. With their recent injuries and a stupid ban, Brighton's squad will be a lot weaker.

He's already looking at 4 games because its his second straight red.

Just watched recorded highlights from last night's Football league show. On reflection, it seems I did Alonso a dis-service. At the time, I was convinced his goal was meant to be a cross, but having watched the replay, I think he might have meant it.

It'll be interesting to see how they deal with the sending off. The BBC cameras didn't capture what happened, so the only video evidence is that taking by a fan from the stands, which I don't think is 100% conclusive. I'm pretty sure Brighton will appeal.

As a side issue... what kind of person films crap footage of a game instead of watching it?

I agree it was good to see Dougie talking about the work that the team is doing off the ball now, and it was evident on Saturday that as a defensive unit Wanderers are a lot more organised now. In midfield Pratley and especially Spearing were excellent positionally and in their work rate. I did feel that with N'Gog and SKD up front we were missing something just behind the frontline, that neither Pratley or Spearing could fill due to their defensive roles. Too often we'd have Eagles or Chungy (who was awful this game tbh) coming in to try and work that gap (that Brighton left wide open on many occasions) but then having no options wide, other than for Alonso's goal (he was kept quiet by Buckley in 2nd half, who also fancied emulating the part of Gareth Bale's game that is unnecessary... as an aside why is always the more gifted players who are divers?).

I thought we should've dropped a player back (perhaps Davo who was keeping Upson pretty busy, and would've pulled him out of the back line) to reap the rewards that space (where a 'number 10' would go) was offering. A Holden or Mavies (if not injured) was crying out for that role in this game (if we'd had some more wide options, I wanted to see Eagles move into the middle... he seemed to be having more luck there on Saturday), but I'm not dissing Dougie. Another point I'd like to bring up is I don't think we pressed Brighton enough in some areas, especially in the 2nd half in midfield. Brighton have got quality players there, but there was too much backing off going on, especially considering how Spearing and Pratley had battled and pressed their way through the 1st half. We also looked a little tired from about 75 minutes on, but it seemed more the doing of sheer hard work than the fruits of Coyle-inspired training...

Overall I was bloody pleased at the effort of the team, and Dougie judged the flow of the game almost perfectly (like I say, a harder pressing game could've killed Brighton off, but judging from the tiredness late in the game perhaps it was not on the cards). 5 wins in a row, and 9 unbeaten is very hard to do in this league, and it could feasibly continue for a few more games yet! COYW!
