There are some very good photographs in there, but, to me, the majority of the really impressive ones are best described as Wildlife or Nature photography rather than Garden photography. In fact I'd goes as far as to say that the few disappointing ones are exactly the ones that can properly be described as the Garden photos

Just got back from a long day out at the Focus on Imaging show at the NEC where I fully intended buying a Nikon D800. Only one actual camera retailer, Calumet, at the show much to my surprise, and their 'special show price' was exactly the same as their web price, £50 over the odds. When asked about this they told me both Nikon and Canon had pressured them into not selling below a minimum figure. Odd that over the last week Amazons price has also gone up to £1,925. I thought price fixing was ilegal. They didn't get my money. I'll wait.

That's a bit disturbing, Clapton. Of course there's nothing to say a retailer can't charge what it likes for a product, but to state what you say was said is a bit odd. In a month or so I'll be in the market for a half-decent DSLR (nothing like your field - perhaps a bit under half that price) and thanks to your information I shall be taking a little more care in checking prices than I might otherwise have done.

Spotty: Whilst the over all theme was, apparently, gardens it seems to have been fragmented into categories which, like you, I thought was a bit confusing. The caption to each photograph does though give an idea as to what the competition involved.

It gives the prize to what it terms "a lake in Oregon" - well that's not any lake, it is Crater Lake, Oregon's only national park and the island is Wizard Island. The winning picture is taken at dawn but when the sun is up the lake is an unusual shade of blue.

In the book I'm reading the author, Iain Sinclair, describes working with a Chinese photographer called Ian Teh. The visual images that the author creates when describing Teh's photographs had me scrambling in anticipation for the laptop so as to take a look at some for myself.

I don't think I've been quite so disappointed since Toto the dog pulled the curtain back.

You should do the public spirited thing and drop the Office for Fair Trading a quick note and see if they think there is any price fixing going on.

It's seems unlikely in a sector like that, but not impossible, I suppose.
