Anyway, Tuesday night at the track I volunteered to help one of our coaches with her badges by taking part in one of her sessions.
With a partner we ran 8 x 400 metres in relay. Whilst the partner ran the second leg we did core work.
First set of four we did:
400m then pressups
400m then squats
400m then plank
400m then rest
Midway we did
10x One hand pressups
10x Burpees
10x Lunges
Then we repeated the first set with core exercises.
Happy with my times. First 400 was 1:17 (too fast)
The rest of the time I averaged 1:30 and was more comfortable.
Wednesday I was so sore I could barely walk up or down the stairs. Thursday was worse.
Today is much better but I have committed to doing this for the next three weeks. I hope it gets easier. I suspect it won't.
you are the demi-god, Ironman of fitlandia!
Yes. Yes I am.

chin-ups are good man...that is certainly more than I can do.
Try hitting those hills, if you're after dropping some weight (not inferring, just that I believe you mentioned it earlier). Good walk up some cairns is monstrous exercise.

Re: The athletics/running thread
Ok, so attempted what gary did on tuesday in the gym this lunch time...with some tweaks, seeing as a minute of press ups for me isn't doable and the idea of eternal hell.
I'll invoice you for a new pair of legs, gary. F*ck me. Probably the hardest I've had to push mysen without the aid of a trainer or whatnot. Even if i was a little (read: lot) slowly than gary on the 400m, and stuck to a 90sec exercise/rest pattern for the in between.
Same next Friday.

Good man. I've got 'til tomorrow to recover then it's hills, hills, hills.
By the way, chuffed to bits this week as Miss GtE has been selected to run for Enfield in the mini marathon (3 mile race before the London Marathon).

Cheers. I've been quite happy with the programme I've got at the moment but by christ that was hard. Good luck with yer hills.
Great news about GtE-ette! She as much into running as her old man is? Still, good stuff, must be very proud.
I was going to cycle home tonight but the longer the day goes on that isn't looking much of an option. I'm dreading the walk to the tube station atm!

She's keen(ish). Just started really and she's got to get her pacing right. She's also not very competitive. But that will come.

Good luck with the tube. Hope the escalators are all working.

I really, really shouldn't be feeling like this still after an hour of fecking exercise. feck.

what you did wasn't exercise - it was lunacy only to be attempted by a demi-god of fitlandia!mrkint wrote:I really, really shouldn't be feeling like this still after an hour of fecking exercise. feck.

Re: The athletics/running thread
I went to the Doctor's on Thursday because I think I have asthma. Doctor sounded unconvinced and I've go to do load of tests and do a peak flow diary (please, no period jokes) but in the mean time I've been given an inhaler for two weeks to use before I do any exercise. Used in on Thursday evening before I went out, and did 5k in 23.37, which is faster than my previous 'PB' (since I was about 18 anyway) by about 30 seconds, and about a minute and a half quicker than the last time I went out. I felt way better too. Could have carried on.
However, the doctor seemed really unconvinced that I had asthma, so I'm wondering if the improvement was all in my head (plus it has been warmer recently, and my 'asthma' tends to only affect me when it's cold).

Being verbally bullied by the club treasurer (who's a horrible man) over disagreements we have about the future of our club. Sometimes I wonder why I bother volunteering.

That sucks GG. Would it not be worth pulling him to one side and telling him how disappointed you are with his attitude and that his behaviour could lead to the club having 1 less volunteer?Gooner Girl wrote:Being verbally bullied by the club treasurer (who's a horrible man) over disagreements we have about the future of our club. In my experience bullies usually climb down when you confront the problem in a calm and assertive manner.

Ahhh, I haven't been in a very calm mood this week, I just emailed back and told him to leave me alone, not very grown up I know, but feeling a bit downtrodden over other stuff at the moment anyway and not got the stomach to confront him. If he does carry on will forward his emails to the chairman.Harry Genshaw wrote:That sucks GG. Re: The athletics/running thread
I'm presuming the inhaler is for Ventalin. This works by opening the bronchial tubes wider. This can benefit people with no serious illness whatsoever for a brief period (but the effects wear off with constant usage), so it might be that you don't have asthma, but that the inhaler did help you. It may also be that you've not got asthma but do have something else - hence the battery of tests you need to perform. Stick with it, they're not all quacks.Prufrock wrote:I went to the Doctor's on Thursday because I think I have asthma. Re: The athletics/running thread
Today's workout...
4x60 second runs at 90% effort (so about 15/16kph on the treadmill for me) interspersed with 60-90secs fast walk.
Then, a mini circuit
60secs swiss ball plank, attempting a press up on it at 30secs
10x squat press with 16kg ViPR
10x burpees (next time I'm going to try and do this but add a step-up to it)
10x lunges with 6kg dumbells.
Repeat x3.
The room was spinning by the end. Jaysus.
