Re: Summer Holidays
I would assume they will do everything to get this cruise off. Hope all goes well, but certainly adds a bit a stress before the departure, which kind of destroys the point of having a holiday to begin with.

Indeed it does. On the bright side, there may be a lot of cancellations leaving more room for us poolside. Assuming it gets off at all.seanworth wrote:I would assume they will do everything to get this cruise off. Well, they have two days to get it sorted though I'm not sure where you pick up a spare azipod. You can be sure that TWers will be amongst the first to hear the full horror story or happy ending.thebish wrote:Montreal Wanderer wrote:Indeed it does. Re: Summer Holidays
Of course the big question remains Monty. Your daughter booked you on a cruise that has a reputation for ships that catch fire, and crash into countries. What did you do to your daughter?

Thanks. My satellite dish is on the fritz so I just check the web. I didn't even know the Carnival Elation lost its steering last Saturday. What a nightmare the company is having.seanworth wrote:Your boat is about to be featured on CNN if interested.

Actually, my older son... but five or six years ago. It could be the dish alignment, dish component, wire, or receiver. I've left instructions for him to fix it while I'm sinking in the Caribbean.thebish wrote:did your daughter buy it for you??Montreal Wanderer wrote:Thanks. Re: Summer Holidays
Email just arrived from Carnival. The cruise will go ahead but not the planned itinerary. They've only made partial repairs to the thingy which is one of the propellers. Most encouraging. I smell law suit.

Hi there!
Betcha can't wait for your cruise on Sunday, which is why we want to provide you with some important information regarding our itinerary plans for your sailing on the Carnival Legend.
As you may know, the Carnival Legend experienced a technical problem with the ship's propulsion system on her current cruise, which is only affecting her maximum cruising speed. Rest assured, this does not compromise the ship's safety in any way and all other systems and hotel services are functioning normally.
While our technical team has completed partial repairs, I'm sorry to say, the progress made on the repairs are not sufficient to reach the maximum cruising speed needed to call in Grand Cayman next Friday. However, please know we are confident we will be able to maintain the necessary cruising speed to visit all of the other three scheduled ports.
The good news is that we have made special arrangements to replace our call in Grand Cayman with a visit to Costa Maya where we will arrive on Friday at 8:00 AM and depart at 4:00 PM.
We sincerely apologize for this sudden change in plans. Pre-purchased shore excursions for Grand Cayman, as well as any difference in government fees and taxes, will be automatically refunded to your Sail & Sign account.
We know you were looking forward to visiting Grand Cayman and apologize we are unable to deliver the itinerary you were expecting. However, we're confident you'll enjoy Costa Maya. Mexico's vivid southern Caribbean coast lies just outside the dock while visiting this beautiful port. Silver dolphins, bright yellow angelfish and turquoise waves are just some of the colors to be seen, in addition to the brilliant hues from the Lake of Seven Colors to the white stone pyramids of the ancient Maya.
For information on FUN tours in Costa Maya, once on board, please visit the Shore Excursion desk, located on Lobby deck 3 - forward.
We realize this is an unexpected change in your travel plans and certainly hope you still cruise with us. However, should you wish to cancel or reschedule, please contact 1-800-CARNIVAL to request a refund or select another date for your cruise. If you are booked through a travel agent, please contact them directly to rebook your cruise.
Thank you for your understanding. Once again, we're very sorry for this change and truly regret the disruption to your vacation plans.
More importantly, we can't wait to welcome you aboard the beautiful Carnival Legend for a FUN and memorable cruise.
See you soon!
Sincerely,
Vicky Rey, CTC

Re: Summer Holidays
If I had an email from anybody that I'd bought a service from using the word "betcha", I'd cancel.

Re: Summer Holidays
I can cancel the cruise for a full refund, but not the airline tickets (which are probably more than the cruise) - didn't take cancellation insurance. Still it's all part of life's rich tapestry. Oh yes, you betcha!boltonboris wrote:If I had an email from anybody that I'd bought a service from using the word "betcha", I'd cancel.

Haha.. Fair enough.
Though I think it would be worth the loss on the flights for your own morals. You can't let people get away with that.

Re: Summer Holidays
Vicky is not even original. I've just checked what to do in Costa Maya on their website and read this with a certain sense of deja vu.
I wonder if I can talk them into giving me free booze.Explore Costa Maya, Mexico
Mexico's vivid southern Caribbean coast lies just outside your dock on Carnival® cruises to Costa Maya. Silver dolphins, bright yellow angelfish, turquoise waves, ivory sand—these are just some of the colors you'll see on cruises to Costa Maya, Mexico. Inland from the port are more brilliant hues, from the otherworldly blue Lake of Seven Colors to the white stone pyramids of the ancient Maya.
