By the way Monty the CNN bit on this cruise line went as follows:

Interviewee (rep from company) : Well the only real problem has been poor communication with the passengers when experiencing minor problems on board the vessel.

Interviewer: So what you are saying is communications has been the problem?

Interviewee: Yes, and we .....

WE apologize about interrupting this interview but we are now going Live to President Obama.

I hope that puts your mind as ease somewhat.

Best of luck, and take lots of pictures, just in case there is a chance for a lawsuit, oh and read the small print regarding anything that you are asked to sign.

Ah, moral principles! That's my strong suit, although the flights are $1600. I guess you can't put a price on integrity (but I can).

I was thinking of a personal life raft in case there's a lot of bloody women and children.

just out of vague interest - I heard on QI a few weeks ago that the women & children on life rafts first is a huge myth - that it has never really been a maritime social norm at all... not in the way it has entered public consciousness, anyway...

I looked it up on t'web - and apparently some Swedes have researched the matter...

I think the QI thing referred specifically to Britain Bish (although that might be because we claimed it was part of our moral superiority), and that there were only two recorded instances of it ever actually happening. I think.

I have returned safely from my week's cruise on the Carnival Legend. It changed its itinerary because it couldn't go full speed. Before we left the dock we had to have a lifeboat drill. It was clearly stated that women and children would be given priority. I tried to give the Bish posish to no avail.

We had a cabin steward called Haro who didn't speak much English but certainly understood it (and brought me ice twice a day contrary to company rules). When we came back after each day's exertions he gave us fresh hand-towels. On the first day we were greeted by a rather tired looking elephant on the bed.

Well, it was hot. The following day a frog awaited us.

Image

We became interested in what would be next - it was part of the fun.

It turned out to be a sort of rabbit with some eye problems.

Image

On the fourth day it was a sad dog.

Image

On the fifth day there was nothing on the bed but then we found a monkey hanging from the ceiling.

Image

On the sixth day my wife nearly bricked it when she saw the bed

Image

Finally on the last night he left only hearts and flowers.

and of course our chocolates.

That's bloody weird Monty.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

We saw the Fingers of God which was also kind of weird.

But on the more normal side we did go to tiny cays to snorkel on the reef.

We explored Mayan temples

and watched dawn in the tropics

Whereabouts in Thailand?? Loved every minute of my time there.

On a personal note, just booked a weekend in Prague for December. Anyone recommend a hotel?

Just booked a week's all-inclusive in Tenerife in late June. Hotel had really good reviews other than a few which were scathing over the lack of 'entertainment' and 'things to do'. Sounds perfick! First abroad holiday with our Maud as well. Can't wait!

^ Aye, we've booked Lanzarote for a couple of weeks commencing 20th June. It'll be our Looked After lads first time abroad and, I have to think, possibly his last time too so we are looking to make it a bit special for him. No, we wouldn't normally go to Lanzarote again but we go in the knowledge that there is a McDonalds in Porta Del Carmen and his special dietary requirements can be met.

I recommend an afternoon side trip to La Gomera. I used to sail there. Lovely marina and the town square is nice to while a few hours away in a cafe. Lots of pilot whales to see and usually a few dolphins between the 2 islands. You can get a fast ferry from los Christianos, or have a word around the marinas and you might get a sail boat to take you across.

Not really one for big summer holidays. Only things tempting me are a trip to Italy to see a mate and possibly doing a festival for the first time in ages - namely Latitude. Cos the lineup is awesome.

Patong Beach. Phuket.

Instead of watching awesome Thai TV we just have it on Non-Stop Premier League or RAI Italia or Cartoon Networks Adventure Time or the Aussie Channel.
