Davies has a role, I think, but just not when the game is finely balanced and there to be won.

Maybe my statement was a bit premature, but i like his press conference comments. Hes steered well clear of "we can take positives from todays game despite the loss" and he seems to have a good work ethos and the players, to me, seem to be responding.Lost Leopard Spot wrote:Hmmm. Maybe its just because for quite a few years now i havent had that much faith in the top man, i was chuffed to bits when OC came to us, i genuinely thought we were entering a new era, unfortunately it panned out slightly different to say the least

Despite the result, nice to see one of their youngsters acting like that on twitter compared to what we usually see from the new generation of pros.

This sounds weird, but it's almost a relief. We were expecting and expected to lose any moment after a great run. Luckily, we did it on a week where Leicester, Leeds and Boro lost. Hopefully Brighton slip up today, too.

As I said last week we are a better side generally but we are still toothless upfront, we do not possess a real goal threat which is why we failed to beat a poor side like Ipswich yesterday - by the sounds of it their keeper hardly had a save to make.
DF has improved us defensively, but until he concentrates on the attacking / creative side of the game I doubt that we will get into the play off's

I would have liked to have gone but apparently there was chaos at the Ipswich ticket office. 400 people all turned up demanding tickets and claiming to be someone called Tris Monk

Not sure we created much clear cut. But yes we lack a goalscorer and personally over and above that I think we lack a creative winger type. When Eagles is cold, like yesterday from the sounds of it, who will unlock a side like Ipswich?Peter Thompson wrote:As I said last week we are a better side generally but we are still toothless upfront, we do not possess a real goal threat which is why we failed to beat a poor side like Ipswich yesterday - by the sounds of it their keeper hardly had a save to make.

We don't have that sort in our squad really now Mark Davies is out.
Just over a month ago we were 20th so we are definitely moving in the right direction. The play offs were always a long shot, its a bit of a miracle we are still in with a chance. Personally I agree with your assessment that we are just a little short.
What I do know is, that had we played in the manner we have in the last 9 or 10 games for the whole of the season is we'd be in the play off positions now, or possibly even better.

Just had a quick check on the Brighton game they are two up against Palace at half time, will have to hope two week break we can regroup and win as many of last eight as possible.
Hopefully we can bolster our side with a couple of quality loans, as well!!

Had we not got rid of him, Petrov would have been useful. His crossing was excellent and even when he wasn't playing great, you always got the sense that the next cross could land on someones head and give you the lead. He was a very threatening player last season and, considering he hasn't been replaced, I don't think it was the right decision to let him go for free. I'm fine with letting him go but only if you replace him, which we didn't. We brought in the shockingly bad De Ridder and even he hasn't played.BWFC_Insane wrote:Not sure we created much clear cut. At the time Petrov left, Freedman said he wanted to bring in younger players, which I don't have an issue with. Him leaving and not being replaced is quite poor though because we lack that width now, plus, Petrov was one of the few players in our squad who could create something from nothing.
Hopefully we can bring someone in on loan, anyway.

Petrov rarely actually created anything. Not the sort we needed.SmokinFrazier wrote:Had we not got rid of him, Petrov would have been useful. If anything we could do with a wide player who likes to come inside, take people on and will bring LCY and NGog into the game. It's just a spark we are missing. Someone who wants to get on the ball and do things. Not a touchline hugger!

Re: Away at Mick McCarthy's Super Ipswich Town
Petrov got 5 assists in 8 games for us this year, which is an excellent return for any winger. Eagles, our most prolific assist maker with 12, has played 36 games, so he was creating far fewer goals per game than Petrov.BWFC_Insane wrote:Petrov rarely actually created anything. Re: Away at Mick McCarthy's Super Ipswich Town
Having gone to the game yesterday, I'm a bit lost by the SKD bashing. Sure, he isn't what he used to be. Sure, he isn't as good as we might hope. But yesterday he did more in five minutes than cravies had done in... however long he was on for. Cravies looked uninterested, N'gog was in and out, but at least SKD came on and did some good work, nodded on a couple, looked like he ight create something (oh, and drew away two of their defenders at every set piece). Until our other strikers hit some kind of form again (or for the first time) he'll be at absolute worst a useful distraction in the air for a defence.TANGODANCER wrote:Good, now you can go to bed happy. Yeah, this is why I'm not in the anti-SKD group. He still has a part to play and I can't understand why people don't see that. Like I said earlier in the thread, if I needed a goalscorer, I wouldn't bring him on, but that's not to say he's useless.bean wrote:Having gone to the game yesterday, I'm a bit lost by the SKD bashing. Sure, sorry it wasn't particularly aimed at you. Just referring back to the latest piece of SKD discussion! Also, and unrelated, but chungy was excellent yesterday. Really, really good to see.SmokinFrazier wrote:Yeah, this is why I'm not in the anti-SKD group. He still has a part to play and I can't understand why people don't see that.
