Re: Charlton away
Few scoops around London Bridge at lunchtime?
Re: Charlton away
Fair enough, were you that surprised when Tottenham went off, the carpet store was reduced to ash as was a double decker. While we at it were you living there the summer before last or in October 85 (my dad was living in Tottenham then), personally from what my dad tells me Tottenham has been on a constant downhill slope for 20 years and given what happened to that policeman in 85 I would say there is a good chance that there is still a massive amount of unsavoury types living there.Prufrock wrote:Charlton is a cracking ground.
You can definitely use a travel card/Oyster card to use Charlton station, but if travelcard it needs to be valid for the correct zone.
I'm going. Woo. Dropping Dorris off at Victoria at half eleven, and going home to the shire straight afterwards so early drinking plans?
Dan, I lived in Seven Sisters. The entire area is an absolute shithole and full of proper dodgy characters. Still, unsurprisingly most of the kids hanging around I always found to be all right. It's the ones who aren't hanging around on corners you need to watch out for. Every one I know who had any trouble around there, including myself, was from folk following you from the tube and then jumping you, rather than hanging about waiting.
The above post is complete bollox/garbage/nonsense, please point this out to me at any and every occasion possible.

It's a date. Pretty sure PB said he was in for this, and I might be bringing some Spanish to show them what 'English football' is all about. Can't wait till they see Fat Frank...mrkint wrote:Few scoops around London Bridge at lunchtime?

I lived there in my final year of University, 2009-10. I was surprised it 'went off' yes. It's a shit-hole, but I didn't see that coming. There are plenty of unsavoury types, plenty, they just aren't necessarily the kids hanging around on the corner who 'look' like trouble.bwfcdan94 wrote:Fair enough, were you that surprised when Tottenham went off, the carpet store was reduced to ash as was a double decker. Re: Charlton away
Of course but it is widely considered that Tottenham is home to the biggest gang in England so given that and the fact that according to some papers Mark Duggan was a member of that gang it is not a surprise (at least to my dad) that it did go of, he in fact said to me after the first night that it will be nothing short of a small miracle if the Tottenham riots go past without anybody being killed, as I say he lived their in 85 and what happened that night still haunts him to this day just as it probably does to all law abiding citizens who lived in Tottenham then. You also have to remember that it is thought that 90% of the U.K's heroin goes through Tottenham due to the Turkish mafia in Tottenham controlling it. A very good freeing of my dads has lived in Tottenham, various parts of Tower Hamlets, Stratford, Peckham and Bermondsey (he is a youth councillor) and he says that north east London is actually considerably worse than south east London, in particular he said Tottenham but also Tower Hamlets were far worse than the other three areas mentioned. Finally I should congratulate you on getting out of Tottenham as that is no small feat even if you only lived their for a year.Prufrock wrote:bwfcdan94 wrote:I lived there in my final year of University, 2009-10. I think he meant UK, which appears to have some credence from internet googles
Re: Charlton away
Bit gutted really as I'm travelling down for a meeting in central London which was planned for Friday and which has now been brought forward to Thursday. Buggered up my intention to stop over, watch the match and come home after.
We can do this. 2-1, last gasp winner.

Sadly I'm in Ireland so I'll miss this.
Go to the Antigallican for a beer. Away fan friendly and a few nice ales on (last time I went).

Re: Charlton away
Sadly, I know London more than I know most places in England. As such I'm aware as to what it is that I'm successfully avoiding thanks, Dan. A friend of mine has a place in a wee place called Overton in North Wales (Bobo knows it). He's having a pretty shit time just now, my mate, so we've agreed to head off out there, let the world know where it's going wrong and get absolutely wankered.bwfcdan94 wrote:What a shame Bruce you will miss out on all the horrors of London. I hate London as a place myself and although Charlton is by no means the worst place it is not exactly great. Think of us when we are squashed on a train while you can see nothing but grass, hills and sheep, where in Wales you going BTW.Bruce Rioja wrote:I'll be having a delightful weekend in the country. Re: Charlton away
Talk of this place or that place leaves me cold. I've seen nothing in Tottenham different to what's going on in any town on a Saturday night.
If it's your fancy, you can take a beating in Highgate. If it's not what you want, you can go about your business unmolested, for the most part, anywhere in the UK.
The red tops might revel in reporting every bad thing that happens, not much is said about the millions of displays of human kindness every day.
Anyhow, it looks like I'm going.

@mrkint
Probably not the thread for this, but I've worked in Tottenham, have friends and family that live in Tottenham and worse than that, have a son that supports the f*ckers!
I wasn't there for the 2011 celebrations, but do know folk living half a mile from the High Road, that knew nothing of what happened until the morning. Also they tell me of the fantastic sense of community that ensued for the next few weeks.

Nothing to do with much, but "Flajo y Gordo" are the Spaniards nicknames for Laurel and Hardy.
