Dear, dear. O.D. Remarks like that must be a real motivation to any Bolton player.officer_dibble wrote:We should of said goodbye last season. He's stunk the place out this year only showing glimpses of the player he used to be. I'd be glad to see him go as I'm sick of seeing him play. With a massive thanks for being a great of course. We've clung on for too long.

I don't understand what she wants? A new contract through loyalty?
Really? I understand its probably a bit upsetting but she surely can't think the club should just hand him a contract cos he's been there a long time?
Surely she's been around football enough to know it doesn't work like that.

Indeed. Let's not forget that her husband once scored the winner in a semi yet didn't make the squad for the final.BWFC_Insane wrote: Surely she's been around football enough to know it doesn't work like that.
I do wonder if SKD knows how much shite she churns out on Twatter?

Coyle did it with his old chum from Burnley. Maybe Davo is good to have around the placeBWFC_Insane wrote:I don't understand what she wants? A new contract through loyalty?

If it was simple...
Him going now saves us 400k or so in wages - possibly a hefty 'loyalty bonus' on completion of his contract
Maybe its that that is Emmas issue - ie if you leave, we aint paying it
It won't be that simple, unless he's willing to take a drop in pay in return for a 2 year deal with somebody - he may be
400k pays a couple of decent players for a year
It's not like letting him go significantly weakens us
Get shut...sharpish

He's been past it for 3 years in my opinion, in those 3 years we've paid him over £5m in wages.
Now THAT is fvckin loyalty. His wife can fvckin do one.

On another tack, contracts usually end on June 30 - just over three months away - so you're saying the captain's on £1.6m ("or so") per year, aka £30k per week; believable, but then you say £400k "pays a couple of decent players for a year". £200k (each) per year is £3,800 per week: has our salary scale dropped that far?

I would say 3 years is harsh. But I think the rest is right.boltonboris wrote:He's been past it for 3 years in my opinion, in those 3 years we've paid him over £5m in wages.

He's hardly been walking barefoot over broken glass to pull disabled kids out of burning buildings for nowt.
The way she bangs on you'd think he had.
He's been a great pro for us, will go down as a Bolton legend and rightly so. But feck me he's a highly paid professional footballer earning more in a week than many will earn in a year.
He's been rewarded handsomely for what he's done here.
To start talking about loyalty and people making you "sick" cos there might not be another contract? That's just wrong.

If you want intelligent analysis, you're barking up the wrong Twitter tree.

I believe I dealt with point 1 - Theres no way Sheff Wed will pay him what we doDave Sutton's barnet wrote:...assuming Sheffield Wednesday (or whoever) pick up the full tab.CAPSLOCK wrote:If it was simple...

Nobody will - if this 'loyalty bonus' is under discussion, then that may have an effect on the figures. All I was getting it as that keeping him on to wave him off, could be a very expensive goodbye
As for the wages for decent players at this level, yeah, I reckon 4k a week is run of the mill decent players - theres one or two at Peterborough who I'd happily take and 4k would see them walking over broken glass
I think

Re: Davo - Sheff Wednesday
Point 1: Suspected as much, but thought it needed further enunciation.
Point 2: I was taking "decent" on our scale as opposed to division-wide; there'll be a few at Barnsley on £4k or so, but I bet Eagles isn't. As a point of reference, a couple of years ago £1k pw was a fairly standard wage in Division Four - not a bad living, twice the national average wage, but short career span etc.

Re: Davo - Sheff Wednesday
That Div 4 average wage is higher than I would have expected actually.
Re: Davo - Sheff Wednesday
Is why quite a few very good players prefer to be part timers rather than chase the dream of being a League 2 / Conference pro - A few hundred quid on weekends from the club, plus their 'proper job' during the week.
