Re: Davo - Sheff Wednesday
It's the right decision. Dougie seems quite ruthless, but I think our club has needed someone like that for a while.
It now means that those who want a "goodbye" know in advance that Blackpool will be his last game for the club and can prepare accordingly.
Good on the club for announcing it too.

Re: Davo - Sheff Wednesday
I cannot complain about this. In my eyes, Kevin Davies is a Bolton legend. It's quite hard to reach level of those like sir Nat in these modern times, when players change clubs so often and there isn't much about love for the club. But, I can't imagine a player who gave more for this club than Kevin Davies in the last decade. Maybe Jussi? True, but these mixed feelings I sense now were not here last year when he signed for WHU.
Logically, he's 36, not scoring goals this season, and not contributing to the team as much as neccessary. There is no reason to keep him here for the next year.
But, still. Kevin Davies, Bolton Wanderers hero, and my own hero, and will always be.

There's only one Kevin Davies. Happy birthday...

Re: Davo - Sheff Wednesday
It really is the best for both parties. Kev wants to play but he won't be getting much game time here anymore.
Sad to see him go and wish we could have kept him around, but I wish him all the best for the future. What are the chances he ends up at West Ham

Re: Davo - Sheff Wednesday
I'd like to agree with everybody. More or less.
It's a shitter, but inevitable. I enjoyed the era of McGinlay but I wouldn't want him trundling round up front.
He is a legend, and will remain so, because he encompasses and encapsulates one of the greatest periods of our history (with respect to the 50s and 20s).
However, it is the right decision for the club and the player. I wonder how much of it is Dougie's ruthlessness and how much of it is financial; who that's left at the club could be on a comparable wage?
But let's leave that aside. Kevin Davies, I thank you for some of the happiest times in a life of supporting BWFC. Good luck, sir: you'll always be welcome back at the club.
And yes, let's have a proper send-off against Blackpool - I'm thinking massive mural of cards held up in the Lofty Lower with a '14' on it...

that'd be the ulitimate... remember those heady days when the TWSpy reported back their utter loathing of the devil's triumvirate FatSam, Kevin Davies and Nobby Nolan?? they were all intent on tearing up their season tickets if any of them ever rolled up at the Boleyn!! imagine - all THREE of them!!bobo the clown wrote:Wet Spam then !!!

Bruce will no doubt scoff, but from what I heard before this all kicked off (that in the light of Dougie's comments appears to be accurate) it's not money as Davies would have stayed here for a lot less, IF he was likely to play.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:I'd like to agree with everybody. He's been unhappy not being a regular for periods of this season. He wants to extend his playing career, so needs to be more likely to play.
But either way, money or playing time or a bit of both, the club had to make a tough decision but for me, we can't keep clinging to the past and have to move forwards. Sadly this is the only way to do it.

Last time I felt like this was when I took our cat to be put down. It had to be done but that doesn't make it any less of a pisser.
Never felt as proud of any of 'em as I was when I saw him turn out for England

Yeah it's sad. It's sad he can't go out on a high as well (well probably can't).Bruce Rioja wrote:Last time I felt like this was when I took our cat to be put down. It had to be done but that doesn't make it any less of a pisser.

I felt the same about Jussi and Gardner going. Both really major parts of our success and both like Davies loved the town.
I hope he gets a testimonial though it doesn't look too likely....

The one they kicked off over was Diouff. He trained with them & the fans were totally ansi.

I'm happy about all this, particularly Dougie coming out and giving us fair warning that Kev is definitely leaving.
Icing on the cake would be if his last game was at Wembley for the playoff final.
Just saying like.

Nah. I'd rather he came on for the last five minutes while we were protecting a lead, barrelled into a slide-tackle for old times' sake, then take it in the corner and let the buggers bounce off him for a bit.BWFC_Insane wrote:With Davies scoring a last minute winner....CrazyHorse wrote:Icing on the cake would be if his last game was at Wembley for the playoff final.

Of course I knew this was inevitable, so I’m surprised at how bummed out I am.
Come to Seattle Kev. Lovely summers. Nice people. Lousy defenders. Incredibly lenient referees.
