Include us in that. Finishing a couple of chances is everything. Nothing for near misses or "if-only's" No use the back section keeping clean sheets if the front men can't capitalise. The sheer joy of that Elmander solo effort against this lot was marvelous. Not expecting that, but score we must.LeverEnd wrote:TANGODANCER wrote:Hope Dougie understands the intensity of the "real" Wanderers clash. John Mac might have had a word, hopefully.
Hope not, sadly you don't get away with a 'wee pooosh' these days and given how shit we were with 11 and how we apparently folded at charlton, I don't fancy another red card.
As for nicking it 1 nil, can't see it. Teams can't continue to miss chances like Blackburn Brighton P'boro and Huddersfield. We're going to have to score at least 2 to win is my prediction. Wolves are actually on a run of form.
Having said that hope we bend them right over and send them home defeated, dejected and destined for relegation.
I think a video montage of SuperJohn goals on the screen pre-match should stoke it up nicely.

When was the last time we failed to score? I'd say keeping clean sheets has been very effective, seeing as we have been scoring at least one, most games.TANGODANCER wrote:Include us in that. Re: WE are the one & only Wanderers
Are you being deliberately argumentative BWFC, or do you really believe that getting one goal and defending for our lives for the rest of the match is an answer to getting promoted? I'm talking about scoring enough to seal the game. Two nil up was it last game but one, and how many near misses did they have on Tuesday plus the Zat Knight kamilaze effort?BWFC_Insane wrote:When was the last time we failed to score? it's been very effective at home recently - but not so effective away... some of our remaining games are away... I haven't seen enough to be confident we can keep 6 of them in a row!BWFC_Insane wrote:

Re: WE are the one & only Wanderers
My word, looking back at how many clean sheets we've had and I noticed that Freedman has been in place for thirty games! Where does the time go. Only eight clean sheets since he came, so no better than a work in progress. That said, four in the last seven and all at the Reebok.
Pretty tight at home, only two sides have better records, shocking away from home though, only two have conceded more.
Why such a disparity?

Agreed but the trick is to find a way to concede less away from home.thebish wrote:it's been very effective at home recently - but not so effective away... some of our remaining games are away... I haven't seen enough to be confident we can keep 6 of them in a row!BWFC_Insane wrote:

I think my point is that as much as we may like to, I'm not sure there is any way to make us suddenly go and score 3 or 4 regularly. However, we have at home, been generally tight, especially since Dawson came in and that has pretty much done the trick. Sure it could all go wrong tomorrow, but our home record and especially our home defensive record won't be at fault.
As you say it's away where we can't stop conceding, that seems to be the biggest problem.

Same. Clearly 5-0 would be nice though.TKIZ! wrote:Personally don't care as long as we win

Re: WE are the one & only Wanderers
indeed... I've never understood this, really... if we can do it at home - why not away? it is the same game with the same rules and the same players...BWFC_Insane wrote:

Re: WE are the one & only Wanderers
Teams are more attacking at home, which doesn't suit the deep defence that Freedman likes to use. It invites pressure and home teams are more likely to capitalise on that because, as the stats show, teams are more attack minded when playing in front of their own fans. We get away with it when we're at home because opposition teams are more careful when they're the visitors.
I don't like the way we defend. I think it's far too deep and we end up inviting pressure, but hopefully that improves.

Re: WE are the one & only Wanderers
Going off his performance on Tuesday, I think that if Butterfield's playing right back and Wolves have anyone that can get down the wing then we can expect to see a lot of deep defending (unless we're going to use Spearing in a bail-out role again)SmokinFrazier wrote: I don't like the way we defend. Re: WE are the one & only Wanderers
no - really i mean the whole thing... why play more attacking at home? why don't teams just play the best way it suits them - why have two different playing-styles - one for home and one for away???SmokinFrazier wrote:Teams are more attacking at home, which doesn't suit the deep defence that Freedman likes to use. yes you may have more fans at home - but why does that affect the entire way the team plays? they're professionals!!
yes - there may be marginal differences in pitch size - but surely not enough to mean the team plays a different game??
why?? WHY?? WHY?????

I suspect it will be a much more nervous, cautious, cagey affair today and a far less passion-fuelled game than it was back then... I doubt that amongst the players there is any real corporate memory of that old enmity...

Re: WE are the one & only Wanderers
I can't really answer the why, but from my basketball playing days I remember some venues I played better than others. I usually played better at home venues, but that can easily be put down to familiarity. Little quirks like an area of the court is more slippery than the rest, or the lighting is slightly dimmer under one basket: that sort of thing. Away from home there were some venues I never played well at and others I seemed to always play a blinder. I don't know what to put it down to other than a feel. Something intangible. I always thrived at the venues regarded as the 'places to play'. A crowd behind you and a wall of noise can really spur you on as long as you don't let it get to you. Arguably my best every game was coincidentally in front of the biggest crowd I've played in front of.thebish wrote:
