Re: Today I'm angry about.....
It is three miles and I have made a trip back to the old place, I did let the other one out before reading your post Tango but luckily he has been coming back every day.clapton is god wrote:My daughters cat escaped back to Chorlton 12 times over a period of about a year before it finally settled down at the new address. It was a distance of about four or five miles as the crow flies (or the cat waddles), so hardly The Incredible Journey but how on earth does a cat find its way from one place to another? Well worth looking back at the old place.

Re: Today I'm angry about.....
Thanks for the advice everybody but the missing cat has yet t come back. You are right Dujon the cat in question is a strong f*cker he is 1.5 years old and pure muscle and being a farm cat he is as big as they come (when stretched out he is four feet, yes I did say four feet long from paw to paw. I would say he is probably twice the size of you average cat in terms a length and slightly chubbier). The thing that amazed me was this was not a cat carrier it was in fact a dog carrier made for big dogs so it is amazing that he could smash it open with his big head. I know he can survive outside by himself as he is a farm cat and we got him from a rescue centre where they told us that on the previous owners farm he would often not be fed up to a week and survived by catching his food. He regularly catches big pigeons and seagulls and like most cats when confronted with a dog (unless it is a big Labrador or something like that) he will stand his ground and often fight dogs (he used to bully my Nabors terrier), so I am not worried about him surviving it is just I would like him to come home, I doubt he would be run over as there is not many cars round here and if he was to attempt to get back to the old house it would involve going over an A road. Hopefully his brother will bring him back.Dujon wrote:We have only moved a couple of times whilst being owned by cats and, fortunately, have not had a deserter. Your missing mog is some tough beast if he could smash open his cage door given that most of them are secured by small but solid metal pins. I concur with the others who have suggested checking back at the old place, Dan.
Likewise I agree with Bruce, but with an amendment. Cats can be very nervous when introduced to new territory. That nervousness may well be displayed by their attitude - but not always. I have found that when cats are agitated they will sweat through their paws. My advice:
A) As Bruce mentioned, keep them inside for a while (see later) at least until they become comfortable with their new indoor surroundings.
B) Once they settle down then make up a little harness that you can slip around their body (thick string will do) using the front legs as an anchor point, with a loop at your end of the leash to slip over your wrist. If you don't make that loop there's every chance that a sudden start of the cat will whip the leash away from you before you have time to react. Take the cat(s) for a little walk around the front and back of your new house once or twice a day. Give them plenty of time to explore and allow them to go where they will other than back indoors or over your boundaries. Keep up your routine until you are reasonably sure that the cat knows its new territory.
C) If keeping the cat inside is inconvenient (e.g. the need for some sort of cat tray) then use method B from the start, but only for the length of time it takes for them to do their doings. This can be frustrating to you but a nervous cat needs time.

Leave some of his favourite food/treats out for him. He might be disorientated and not recognise the house you now live in. Not unusual for cats to turn up weeks/months later, so don't panic.bwfcdan94 wrote: Thanks for the advice everybody but the missing cat has yet t come back. I was away. I missed this argument, I'd like to resurrect it if I may.thebish wrote:aye - they could put him on trial...mummywhycantieatcrayons wrote:

1) Abu Qatada has been tried in absentia in Jordan and convicted of terrorist offenses. Fact.
2) We cannot try him here for the same crimes - double jeopardy.
3) We'd (political) would like to deport him for the crimes he has committed [those for which he has beeen sentenced already]
4) But we (the judiciary) won't deport him in case evidence gained through the use of torture is used against him.
Now 4 is a little bit batty from a number of perspectives.
a) we cooperate with Jordan on any number of issues none of which are interrupted by the potentual use of torture in Jordan.
b) Doesn't Jordan have the same rights as ourselves - where is the evidence they have used torture. it's only an alleged use after all.
c) the torture, if used at all, was (already) used - it's in the past. it's not like they'll torture Abu Qatada. They might chop his head off - but he himself is all for that sort of justice (the nice person).
d) take another three judges of a slightly less liberal stance and they'd be likely to send him back to Jordan on the guarantees already given to this government and the EU by Jordan. So the judiciary are not exactly playing ball by being independent from the executive wing of government - they are playing politics themselves.

Carlsberg.
More precisely, Carlsberg making cider.
The Danes making cider. The Danes. The world has gone to shit, and no amount of natty advertising will change that.
Just f*ck off.

See, this is what Thatcherite free markets and survival of the fittest get you. Danish Cider. The bitch knew what she was doing if she was trying to wind me up.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.
