Shall I squeeze my I-told-you-so in here or shall I save it for later?BWFC_Insane wrote:Aye, Dougie has brought him on a lot. Credit to Marcos though for the huge, huge improvement.Loyal White wrote:I think people under-estimate how much Alonso gives us.
He's been our only width on the left hand side for much of the season, links up well with Lee and is the only defender we have capable of bringing the ball out of defence.
Admittedly he can be suspect defensively at times, but I think he offers us more than he costs us by a long way.
I'd still not fancy him at left back in the premiership against a lot of sides, he'd be ripped apart. He often is at this level, but we get away with it more.
But have to give credit to the lad, he's proven me wrong in terms of showing application and bottle and I'm glad he has.
Heard on the grapevine that he loves Dougie and Lennie, so we'll see if thats enough to keep him!

May the bridges I burn light your way

Anytime you like. I'm glad Alonso has proven me wrong. Took his time like, but all's well that ends well, assuming he DOES sign a new deal.Bruce Rioja wrote:Shall I squeeze my I-told-you-so in here or shall I save it for later?BWFC_Insane wrote:Aye, Dougie has brought him on a lot. He's got another year on his deal hasn't he? So it's hardly a massive surprise that nobody else would offer him the money we're paying him.Bruce Rioja wrote:Oh for feck sake no!boltonboris wrote:Looks like Zat's staying..

He apparently signed an extension today..
Although, it might be the one on the table last summer, that he's only just got to.

The bloke that sits next to me (yeah, I know) reckons he's mates with Knight's agent. At the end of last season Knight decided to see who came in for him. No-one did, except Coyle, with a ridiculous package.BWFC_Insane wrote:He's got another year on his deal hasn't he? I can't see the obsession with Mark Davies. We look so much better without him.
What a hero, What a man...... Ooooh, what a bad foul...

We don't.. Sometimes, I think he's exactly what we need when you look at games like Ipswich and Huddersfield.
We'll build around him next season.

I'm i right in thinking that IF we make the playoffs then we won't have Dawson as his Loan stint is up at the end of the championship which doesn't cover the playoffs?

But we'll have Wheater back and Mills is back now, too. He'll be a big miss, but I'd rather be in the play offs without him, than not at all.

Not at all. We miss his creativity. He'd be brilliant in front of Spearing and Medo. In fact I'd say that midfield would be miles ahead of owt else in this division.Andy Waller wrote:I can't see the obsession with Mark Davies. We look so much better without him.

Frankly it wouldn't be a huge loss. Clearly we'll have to find a top class striker in the summer for peanuts, but hey Dougie has come up with the goods so far!

I think he's a bit similar to N'gog. We would need to play a goalscorer in front of that mf I reckon.BWFC_Insane wrote:Sordell.Worthy4England wrote:I could give that a go. Not that I want to outgloat anyone in particular but I posted this on the 30th Dec. Na na na na na.Enoch wrote:One finds this kind of gloating a touch crass.Bruce Rioja wrote:Shall I squeeze my I-told-you-so in here or shall I save it for later?

Now on to the real meat. Alonso was a revelation. He is far better than any grudging half-wit on here has ever given him credit for, far better than Mears and at times in the first half the only proper footballer on the pitch. Better still in the second half even when faced with the billy-whizz character introduced by Brum as a sub he recovered every ball although he was challenged for pace.

And yes I was talking next season, and hopefully with some whizz bang new striker up front.
