I imagine you would get a better deal on Baffin Island than at a shop in the Lake Louise Chateau Hotel (on anything including Inuit Art).

It was certainly cheaper, and I also knew nobody else, apart from the artist had ever seen it before, which when you think about it, for a piece of art, is strange.

Also, I didn't buy the first one there, that's just where I discovered the art form. I got the first one from the Inuit museum in Toronto

We have quite a large gallery next time you are in Montreal (http://www.imagesboreales.com/en/inuitart.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) - better restaurants, football and hockey teams too than Toronto. [Waits for Seanworth's explosion]

Never ever been to Montreal. Sounds tempting, probably slightly livelier than Cape Dorset

I'm not sure that this really fits into the Great Art Debate per se, but I'm lobbing it in here anyway. I hope you don't think me strange BUT, all my life, even as a child, I've had an absolute fascination with abandonment. Buildings, vehicles, industrial sites, old derelict houses, sports grounds/stadiums (especially those), battlefields, the ground on which something once stood - anything really. I've always wondered what their story was. Anyway, there are 30 beautiful abandonments here. Have to say I'm quite surprised that Chernobyl didn't make the list!

I get what you mean, Brucie. It's like the idea of nature taking stuff back. Very fascinating. And beautiful, in a way.

Detroit is ridiculous for it though. Some guys did a photo-book about the ruins in the city. A few choice shots hither, if you haven't seen em

Cheers Guys.

I'd absolutely love to visit the Drakelow Tunnels but I believe that they're in private ownership and the owners aren't keen on people poking about in them. :(

I bought this book as a birthday present for an American friend of mine last time you posted about it, MK.

I just wanted an excuse to look through it myself, really!

ah :( it's not got adult content! Unless Brian Blessed racing Goldie on a Henry Hoover while drunk on White Ace counts as adult content,

a couple of the pics on the guardian piece will give you a flavour though, brucie. And worth checking out when you get home. It's absolutely daft, stupid humour but some it really had me trying to hold in the laughter. Though that might just be me,
