Tom Eaves - The Wanderer viewpoint

Post by TKIZ! » Sun Apr 21, 2013 1:49 pm

I know this really should have been in the Boro thread but just wanted The Wanderer opinion on his 15min cameo yesterday. I thought he did look incredibly SKD like
Pfffft.

He's a bloody big unit.

Some nice flick ons, but also a little slow onto one or two things he could have taken advantage of.

Always difficult to come on as a striker and get into the game when you're attempting to shut up shop.

Looking forward to seeing more of him and seeing how he progresses.

Thought he did ok. Certainly has promise. Bit naive a couple of times towards the end trying to pass back into midfield, when he just needed to hold it in the corner. But he will learn that side of the game.

Certainly brought some energy into the game in terms of chasing balls down and being a nuisance. Doesn't look to have much pace but put himself about well.

He did. The word "lummox" came into my head. Not necessarily in a bad way. :)

Big unit was also mentioned.

After his first touch the fella to my left went "another bloody cart horse!" Never quick to rush to judgement are Bolton fans :)

He's a big lad with lots of energy. He'll be a handful for many a defence. Just not sure in which division yet. Hope it's with us at the top level.

Typical negativity, not from you Clapton but from the other fan. I thought he made a right nuisance of himself and although lacking pace he was the unknown quantity.

Personally I thought he did well for the short time he had on the pitch, echo all the points above eg Big unit, will learn with experiance etc .... Its a pity he wont have SKD to learn from some of the finer points of being a big physical target/front man.

He did a few nice touches and flicks but, like when SKD comes on, we started to hoof balls towards him more and stop playing football. Saying that he looks like he'll be a threat from crosses which Sordell, Ngog and Cravies aren't and in the first half we needed someone to cross to.

I thought he did well. I was impressed with his work rate, and the way he put himself about a bit.

Plus, Dan thinks he's shite, so that's always a positive mark for someone.

Well that's sorted you lot.

Anyway since you have seen so much of Eaves can you give us a bit of analysis. I remember a couple seasons or so ago before some injury they were touting Eaves as a replacement of KD. In your analysis can you compare him a bit to KD, including strengths, weaknesses and style of play.

I think he is slower than KD, cannot hold up the ball as well, is not as strong, is not as good in the air, he does not work as hard as KD has throughout his career, he does not have the leadership qualities of KD (but that is understandable) and does not like getting stuck in any more so than your average footballer. However Eaves is quicker and is a better goal scorer but their is a noticeable difference in quality between the two players IMO. Personally I can see Eaves playing League1 or League2 football.

people change!

BWFCi thought Ngog was an out and out goalscoring striker...

I always thought the next season would be Vaz Te's season...

Crazy thought Sordell would be the league's top scorer...

Bruce thought that fruit cider was yummy...
