Tonight's Football

There ARE other teams(we'd have no-one to play otherwise) and here's where all-comers can discuss the wider world of football......

Not a surprise with teeth like that.

And just to prove what a cheating cock he is. Should have been a red card for this deliberate handball.

Same vid, with a report and a still from a different angle.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

He got a 7 game ban last time he bit an opponent,

You just read that again, "last time he bit an opponent" .... not many you can say that of.

Really looking forward to his explanation this time. Probably give some half hearted apology and explain that no ill intent was meant, but that it was simply a little known Uruguayan form of greeting.

Suarez finally got a taste of the Champions League.

I went to Anfield today. My son got offered a couple of tickets by a friend and since despite my attempts over the years to get him to support a proper club, he's always supported Liverpool. Until now, the only time he's seen them live is at the Reebok, where he's had to sit on his hands when they've scored.

I'd never really made too much effort to try and get tickets for him to go and watch them at Anfield, so since I had nothing better to do today, I accepted the offer of free tickets and off we went.

I've not been there for about 30 years, so I spent the morning researching online how far from the ground I needed to park so that I didn't have to pay some scrote to "mind your car", or pay for 'secure parking'. The general opinion seems to be that beyond 1 mile is reasonably 'safe', where you don't get bothered by the kids, but still run the ususal risks of parking anywhere in liverpool. Asda car park seemed like a safe haven to me. Safety in numbers and all that. So that's where we parked.

We trudged through the rain, grime, sh*t covered cracked pavements, closed up shops, derelict houses and eventually got to the ground. We found our entrance into the main stand and made our way to our seats. The seats were wooden and the bracket on mine had broken, so the seat was sloping forward, forcing my knees into the back of the seat in front. Our view was partly obscured by pillars and the people's heads in front of us. A grim reminder of how things used to be. Thankfully we could see the goals.

What was pleasing to see was that the quality of the football was not too dis-similar to what we're served up week in week out at the Reebok. (Pleasing because it shows the gulf between the Premier league and the Championship isn't as as big as I thought it was). Lots and lots of mis-placed passes, surprisingly few tackles to win it back and not that much quality on show. The whinging and moaning in the crowd is almost identical too. I'm so used these days to poor performances resulting in the home team getting booed off at halftime, but surprisingly that didn't happen today, despite Liverpool's woeful first half.

From where we were sat, the deliberate hand-ball and the biting incidents weren't that obvious. The ref clearly knew something had gone on with the biting incident, since Ivanovich kept showing him his arm. I just assume that he, like the rest of us, had missed what had happened.

Anyway, unlike many of the home faithful, we stayed and saw the final goal, my lad was really made up. Which was nice.

We made our way back to the car and thankfully it was still there, fully intact, wheels and all. Which was a relief I can tell you.

(Oh by the way, amongst all the hard core bad language I heard today, I heard an insult that I don't think has made it onto the 'Insults' thread yet - "you ninny" )
Hope is what keeps us going.

"On chances created, we deserved three points.

"I think it would be an injustice to Luis Suarez to talk about 45 minutes, he has been the best player in the league this season. I think he is the third best player in the world behind Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

"You have two good teams, there is a lot at stake. These games will get spicy."

Why did I just read that quote to myself, in my head, in a thick tw*t scouse accent ?

Gerrard really shouldn't throw words like 'injustice' around given what they were wearing armbands / gaffa tape for today.

I can't get my head around Graeme Souness calling someone else's conduct 'embarrassing'!
