Chris Eagles - Happy Wanderer

Re: Chris Eagles - Happy Wanderer
He's not a pysical player, which irritates many including me at times. But when he's playing badly he still shows up for the ball time and time again and keeps tryingt things rather than hiding. there's a certain less obvious bravery in that if you ask me.
Chungy was definitely hiding at certain points earlier this season but got no stick for it. not that I want him too but it was one rule for one etc. People were waiting for Eagles to do something wrong so they had a stick to beat him with.

This. Eagles is more effective at this level than LCY!LeverEnd wrote:He's not a pysical player, which irritates many including me at times. But CYL was far more effective in the Prem.

Possibly. I do think there are slightly different requirements. At this level the onus is often on us to break teams down. Players that committ defenders by running at them and past them and can create something out of nowt possibly are at a premium.Bruce Rioja wrote:BWFC_Insane wrote:This. In the premiership I guess often a lot of work is off the ball in a defensive aspect and when you have it, it's about keeping it. LCY probably is best when he has good players around him, to play the one twos and feed his clever movement.
Possibly the subtlety of his game is a little less relevant in the championship.
Whereas as we saw Saturday Eagles being prepared to continually run at players can make the difference in tight games at this level.
Re: Chris Eagles - Happy Wanderer
Dougie would be hard pressed to find a player of CE's quality, who he could bring to the club for under £3million. If we said he could leave, there would be many clubs after him. He's done very well for me this season.

What did he pay for Kamara?

Re: Chris Eagles - Happy Wanderer
My point is it's not easy to find affordable quality if you only look around the local shops. Freedman has shown he can buy well from some unlikely places and he's also shown he can spot and develop unheralded talent.
If he could sign a creative right sided midfield/winger, that delivered consistently and also offered good defensive cover, I'd be happier than I am now.

Re: Chris Eagles - Happy Wanderer
Yes, but if you look at Eagles stats for us in his season in the prem in terms of goals and assists, it's very similar to what Chungy managed in each of his first 2 seasons pre-injury. Obviously that doesn't give the full picture.Bruce Rioja wrote:BWFC_Insane wrote:This. Re: Chris Eagles - Happy Wanderer
If I HAD to pick, I'd have Lee, just. This is a way better choice than that other one though. Keep 'um both. Would love to see Haircut in the Prem under a proper manager. Not sure he's as 'Championship' as some make out.

Re: Chris Eagles - Happy Wanderer
again - you're comparing an LCY who was still coming back from long-term injury for a large part of this season - this season is not really a fair comparison...BWFC_Insane wrote:This. still - at least it's a thing that you and CAPS finally agree on - so it's not all bad!

Re: Chris Eagles - Happy Wanderer
I love Chris Eagles and want him to be part of a midfield that includes Davies, Holden + AN Other. He has the ability to be a Bolton great. He has a good touch, gets the ball out from under his feet and likes to take a pot shot where others would shirk the responsibility and try to pass it.
He is so infuriating though. When he's not on it he's simply not on it and I think that's why the fans get on his back so quickly. He's the player we'd like to be and the player we look to when things aren't going right on the pitch. If he'd just knuckle down a bit more....
Is he a leader? Not in terms of shouting and pointing but he certainly has the ability to lead by example.
He could be effective in the prem, he won't be the best player in the league but as someone said above that's why he's at Bolton and not Man United.
He's certainly one of our best players and I want him to play well and stay at the club.
Probably needed the rest that DF gave him and now could be on his way back to form.
So err yeah. #eagles4england

I'm not asking you to 'think outside the box' I just wish you'd have a rummage around in it once in a while.

If we could ever achieve it, would probably be the best midfield we've had since Allardyce left!boltonboris wrote:Lee

Apart from Petrov, Holden, Muamba and Lee.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.

Oh it'd be fairly considerably better than that ASSUMING Holden is back to his previous best (which he won't be but in a theoretical scenario).Lord Kangana wrote:Apart from Petrov, Holden, Muamba and Lee.
A proper holding midfield player in Kamara, who can actually pass the ball, and reads the game as well as anyone I've seen here, Holden at his best doing the leg work, Mark Davies creating.
Eagles and Lee tucking in, switching sides, providing movement.
Properly balanced.

When it has us top-8 in the Prem going into an FA semi, then I'll switch hyperbole mode on.
