Hey no worries, Kinty. People can't even check lottery tickets here without them being protected from themselves.mrkint wrote:ahit's not got adult content! Unless Brian Blessed racing Goldie on a Henry Hoover while drunk on White Ace counts as adult content,
a couple of the pics on the guardian piece will give you a flavour though, brucie. And worth checking out when you get home. It's absolutely daft, stupid humour but some it really had me trying to hold in the laughter. Though that might just be me,
I'll have a nosey at home.

May the bridges I burn light your way

£535,000 of Art Funding NOT going up in steam ..... totally wasted, but apparently it was worth a go.

Plans for a giant steam artwork on the Liverpool skyline have been abandoned after 15 months of failed attempts to make it materialise.
Artist Anthony McCall designed Column, a spiral of steam that should have risen 10km (six miles) into the sky.
Arts Council England has spent £535,000 of Lottery money on the project, which was due to have run throughout 2012 as part of the Cultural Olympiad.
The Arts Council rejected accusations that it was a waste of money
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

So the Turner Prize shortlist is out:

This article sums up pretty much what I felt when I saw that list. Although I might have had more to say about how poor a painter Liadom-Boakye is and how we've already seen black people painted badly before when Chris Ofili did it.

Is Chris Ofili the bloke who painted using that rare medium of elephant shit, or am I being institutially racist over that memory?mummywhycantieatcrayons wrote:So the Turner Prize shortlist is out:

Shrigley had a major exhibition at Manchester Cornerhouse a few months ago - I posted on it in this forum. Enjoyed it, but significant urban art? not really...

I am familiar with two names on that list - Berthe Morisot, lovesick groupie of Manet (and indeed poster girl of the recently concluded Manet exhibition at the Royal Academy), producer of third rate impressionist paintings, and Michelangelo Antonioni, post-war Italian filmmaker of 'L'Avventura'.William the White wrote:Up my street and just down the road...

I look forward to hearing how on earth they fit the exhibition's theme

And, of course, Blow Up and Zabriskie Point. I liked both of those at the time... Though I think Zabriskie Point was a catastrophe at the box office - almost bankrupting the studio.mummywhycantieatcrayons wrote:I am familiar with two names on that list - Berthe Morisot, lovesick groupie of Manet (and indeed poster girl of the recently concluded Manet exhibition at the Royal Academy), producer of third rate impressionist paintings, and Michelangelo Antonioni, post-war Italian filmmaker of 'L'Avventura'.William the White wrote:Up my street and just down the road...

Not really art but I essentially want all these movie posters

Also, anyone in Manchester, I would recommend having a wander around that gallery of a lunchtime or weekend. Absolutely wonderful.

Glad you enjoy
it's a cliched thing to say but they are so impressive in the flesh...there are also some displays of an artist's (i forget the name) cinema redux series, where he puts each individual frame from a famous film on a canvas. They looked so good. Though not good enough that it would make me part with the best part of £2,000

Tomorrow, on that essential channel, BBC4 at 9.00pm Great Artists in their Own Words offers glimpses into the ideas of Dali, Magritte, Matisse and others. Guardian recommends as one of their picks of the day.
