I went to Aberdare for New year's Eve a couple of years ago. Horrific.

I went there and thought it was aright, mind you I had just been to Newtown which is also up there with the Rhyls and the Newport's. The train I was on stopped at Newport and boy did that live up to its reputation, horrid place that looked more like Belfast than Wales. The thing with Wales is just the sheer volume of it that I horrible, Northern Ireland, Ireland and Scotland are all poor but has some few nice bits as well, you just don't get that with Wales North Wales is horrible and so is south Wales is even worse, the only good bit are in the middle. Aberystwyth is alright for example.

Northern Ireland's horrible ? It's well known for its scenic qualities and Belfast isn't the worst looking city in the UK, out of interest where have you been in NI ?
