Spoke to a Palace fan yesterday who seems resignedly convinced that DF will sign Mile Jedinak over summer. "We're a one-man team, and it's not Zaha."

isn't he a defensive mid? that would seem to rule out a move for spearing, no? (also, I see, he has captain's experience... hmmmmmm... with Davo going...)

Talk over in the Scouse camp suggests that Spearing is open to the move as it keeps him in the North West and he's been treated like a footballing god here. Also that he's been offered the Captain's armband, if he he decides.

My Scouse source has no reason to make this up as he's a very stoic Oirish man who's not prone to BS

I'd be happy either way! not sure we can accommodate both of them, though, along with Medo and a returning Holden - not if we also want to find a place for Vela and also fit in Eagles, Mavis and Lee... not to mention Pratley and Andrews...

I can't see Andrews staying here, Pratley is a utility player and we could probably get away with playing him in any midfield role. Defensively, Medo and Spearing for me
Pfffft.

Andrews can be cover. That way we can target the defence and attack as our summer signings.

I'd be happy if I never saw Andrews in a white shirt again. Not sure exactly when he got injured, but our run of decent form seemed to start at the same time.

I think Andrews would be a big help were he fit now. I think correlating the run with him being out is a little silly as there are a whole multitude of factors.

Obviously.

But we are a better team without him. In my opinion.

Andrews' last game was at Palace, Jan 19, so a fortnight before we bottomed out at Watford. However, we were undefeated in his last three games for us.

Andrews is a tidy player and could easily have played a similar part in our recent rise. His unfussy work in defensive midfield is the type that gets quickly criticised when we're not winning but only slowly lauded when we are: cue the old quote about those who play the solos and those who shift the pianos.

I have nothing against Andrews and don't mind him being about. Freedman spoke of highly after playing through pain while we were short-staffed. I have no doubt that Freedman would prefer Jedinak – it's not the first source I've heard the link from – but I know it's not the position we'd describe as a priority: Andrews was given a three-year contract so he's going nowhere fast. Add in Medo and you've got a lot of options for those two spaces, even without considering Spearing. Interesting...

Bolton boss Dougie Freedman has confirmed he is interested in Australian defender Trent Sainsbury.

Recent reports suggested that the 21 year-old was on the verge of joining the Trotters after a bid of £350,000 was accepted by A-League champions Central Coast Mariners.

Although Freedman admitted he is keeping a close eye on Sainsbury, no formal offer has been put forward to sign the talented youngster.

"There's been an enquiry to see what he's doing over the summer. Obviously he's finished his season and there's an enquiry with my contacts over in Australia if he's going to go lie on the beach or if he wants to have a fly over and have a look around the training ground," he told Tower FM.

"Maybe have a fitness test and see if he's the kind of guy I would find in my program.

"That enquiry has obviously been leaked out there as an approach and a bid and things like that which has never been the case."

Sainsbury, who was voted into the A-League's Team of the Year after an outstanding season for the Mariners, is also reportedly a target for Southampton.

I love this.. So much better than any "Have a nice time lad, we'll see you in June" attitude that may or may not (but probably was) have been used by the previous manager.
