They've not p*ssd about with Ken either. Most have been bailed to later dates but he was charged within 12 hours of being locked up. I wonder if he's coughed it!?

he's only admitted it because he had to - all of the victims (even though they did not know each other) gave pretty much identical and consistent stories of what he did and how he did it...

not that long ago he was doing the "poor me - these scurrilous allegations have nearly driven me to suicide" stuff.

i don't think his age should be taken into account - just lock him up. - and erase every BBC tape of him ever giving one of his wanky self-serving match reports.
I'll clarify part of my statement there. One of the fondest memories I have of my dad is him laughing till he cried at an International Knockout episode (the Belgians are coming, the Belgians are coming") That memory feels somehow tainted now, which saddens me.

As far as the sentence goes, the judge will undoubtedly take his age and the length of time that has passed into account. For me, they can throw away the key, my sympathies lie with his victims. One of them was 9 years old and for me, stringing him up with piano wire by the balls would not be too harsh a punishment.

Pretty much this.

You know, people may be straight or gay. They may like fat 'uns or thin. Older or younger, tall or short. They can dress how they like & wear whatever studs, piercings, tattoo's they want. Do what the fck they like with their hair. Meet in pairs or in groups. Men can wear frocks if they wish. They can carry out their deeds at home or in car parks .... .

Those preferences may or may not be ones I can 'get' ... but I really, really, really cannot understand what would be the driver behind child abuse. Utterly contemptible and unforgivable.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

2 other things are really winding me up about this. The first is that according to the Police, several of the parents were aware of what had happened to their children but did nothing about it other than stop Hall from seeing their children. Almost as contemptible and in some ways worse is his solicitors statement on his behalf some weeks ago that he was the victim of a celebrity witch hunt. That woman had seen all of the depositions and any right minded person would surely have thought "Hang on; Same MO, same age, same story" but no, she effectively spat on his victims by making a statement in support of him, something that she did not have to do. Utter, utter *******

Gee, I'd love to be around to see what comes out fifty years from now. There was no widespread child rape or sexual molesting among the general public where we lived. Neither was importing kids and filling em full of drugs for prostitution a feature. Don't rate the country by what a few "celebrities" did. Just didn't happen that way.

Ah, but maybe there was and you simply don't know about it.

To the best of my knowledge there isn't any widespread child rape or sexual molesting among the general public now either. I accept that there's some though.

Correct, such aberrant behaviour is not wide-spread (otherwise it not be aberrant) but is always there. It was normal to the Romans and other societies. Values change, and generally for the better.

I did read about Hall:
On another occasion in the 1970s he fondled the breast of a girl aged 16 or 17, the court was told.
It is just possible I might have done something similar in the 1960s.

There's probably no doubt about it. I was doing similar in the early 70s

whether you believe it or not, Tango - it wasn't just celebrities - and it was ordinary people where you lived, in houses and streets just like yours.

And you know this, even though you weren't born in the fifties? Let me re-state that I never heard of any then.

that is a very different thing to say than "Just didn't happen that way". That's why it happened and carried on happening - it was done secretly and in private and victims were terrified into not telling... (not that children would ever have been believed anyway back then if they HAD told...) OF COURSE you didn't know about it!

also - catholic priests were at it in the 1950s.. Revd Gerald Fitzgerald founded a religious order specifically to treat paedophile priests back then - he concluded that they couldn't be cured and were unsafe to be allowed out in parishes... he suggested buying an island to isolate them all on... but the Catholic Church ignored him and redeployed them all in parishes around the world...

Sorry Tango but that an absolutely preposterous remark.

Do you know of nothing from before you were born?

I do recall one guy local to me (& boy, did he fit all the caricature 'looks' for nonces) being "someone your parents warned you against" ... and a woman who was "no better than she ought to be" AND wore ankle bracelets !!!

But apart from the guy I was unaware of anything even remotely like this being on the rumour/story mill. I can't say there wasn't anything untoward, but just that I was fairly street wise and was unaware of very much.

Then again I went to an all boys school run by Catholic Priests and never so much as got a nod from any of them ! Maybe I was just plug ugly.

that'll probably be because not every catholic priest is or was a paedophile! (in fact - the vast majority aren't and weren't - so you had a fairly normal experience...)

it was going on in the 50s though...
