No, I'm not the one to do it. I haven't seen enough of him lately, and I'd rather keep my memories of him on top of his game. He'll always be a hero to me. Read the tributes in the B.N from Henrik Pedersen, Stelios, Gary Cahill etc and I'm more than a bit sad at the way it all ended, but there you go, that's football. I always remember a comment Alan Shearer made when Kev got our third goal to beat Spurs 3-2 on my son's wedding day: " Four guys went in for that ball, only one was ever going to get it, and that one was Kevin Davies" That's how I'll remember Super Kev.officer_dibble wrote:Come on tango. Get a tribute written. Get it out of your system.
I'd be happy to post one up on the Home Page if anybody fancies it.

Looking on the bright side, now we've got rid of Davo, who's been an obvious detriment, we should be good for 200 goals, for, next season. Can't wait.

Are you saying we should have kept him?Worthy4England wrote:Looking on the bright side, now we've got rid of Davo, who's been an obvious detriment, we should be good for 200 goals, for, next season. Can't wait.
Surely the reasons were he is 35, not the cheapest, had a poor season with the lowest goal ratio of all our strikers (as Bruce might say loser of the tallest dwarf competition) and couldn't seem to really impact games anymore.
I can only imagine we might sign 3 or 4 players on the wage that has been freed by his release. So no, we're not going to score 200 goals all of a sudden.
But we couldn't keep clinging to a bloke who was clearly not of the standard required anymore, even at the level we are now playing.

Re: SKD off to Canada...
Can't believe I'm joining in the SKD yes/no/good god no conversation but at his very worst Davies was still a talisman for the team and a focus for the fans.
Every team needs that. McGinlay, Thomas, Caldwell, Byrom some teams have more than one Jay Jay, Nolan, Youri, Davies. All players that when things aren't going well the fans can focus their energy on which in turn the other players can feed off.
Some one who can gee the fans up.
Now there's no denying that Davies's star has faded over the past couple of years but when the chips were down and there was only five minutes left if I was an away defender I wouldn't like looking over to see SKD on the touchline waiting to come on.
The reality may have been that he'd come on point a bit and get booked without touching the ball but who's the focus now?
Sordell? Doubt it. Bogdan, Ream, Knight? Davies, Chungy, Davies? Hmmm. Don't think I could pick out a single player and say 'That man IS Bolton Wanderers.'
Hope I'm wrong.

Good point, this, but nature abhors a vacuum and someone will arise. Might be Medo, or Spearing if he returns. There'll always be a fans' favourite, just as there's always a whipping boy.coffeymagic wrote:Can't believe I'm joining in the SKD yes/no/good god no conversation but at his very worst Davies was still a talisman for the team and a focus for the fans.

No, not saying we should have kept him. Just pointing to the "only thing that's stopping us looking really good is SKD upfront" argument. So I can't wait to see all these vastly improved performances what with pace, movement and on the back of that a shed load of goals I hope.BWFC_Insane wrote:Are you saying we should have kept him?Worthy4England wrote:Looking on the bright side, now we've got rid of Davo, who's been an obvious detriment, we should be good for 200 goals, for, next season. The most positive thing about SKD leaving is that we get rid of his wife... just posted this one twitter

That Tom Eaves is a right wanker, if only he'd got himself sent off to let Kevin Davies have a game......Tals-biggest-fan wrote:The most positive thing about SKD leaving is that we get rid of his wife... just posted this one twitter

She's not committing any great sin supporting her husband is she? . Amazing how many Whites fans I've spoken to locally who are not happy he didn't get a few minutes. We didn't win, didn't make the play offs' and a lot had left before he came on the pitch. Very least he deserved was a Reebok roar from a nearly full house. Anyway, a lot on here won't shed any tears. It's done with now so why bother?BWFC_Insane wrote:That Tom Eaves is a right wanker, if only he'd got himself sent off to let Kevin Davies have a game......Tals-biggest-fan wrote:The most positive thing about SKD leaving is that we get rid of his wife... just posted this one twitter

I'm a huge KD fan, but regardless, doesn't he share some of the responsibility for not getting on the pitch in the final game, considering that the game was very meaningful right up to the end. It was only the result that made the game meaningless.TANGODANCER wrote:She's not committing any great sin supporting her husband is she? . He didn't get on the bench, never mind the pitch and that decision was Dougie's not his. I still find it hard to believe he didn't do enough in training to be dropped for what, four games?seanworth wrote: I'm a huge KD fan, but regardless, doesn't he share some of the responsibility for not getting on the pitch in the final game, considering that the game was very meaningful right up to the end. It seems to me that after he was told his contract wouldn't be renewed, that he went through the motions and didn't earn his place. I'm sure that if comittment was shown in training he would have been selected. Shame it ended in acrimony, he was a legend, but the club moves on, and NO ONE should be an automatic choice because of who they are or what they've done in the past.

He didn't do enough to earn a contract at the end of last season. Not nearly enough but he still got one.TANGODANCER wrote:He didn't get on the bench, never mind the pitch and that decision was Dougie's not his. This season he simply didn't do enough.
He got a good send off and a fitting one. However he's been paid at the very least for 12 months and contributed very very little. Frankly I don't think his heart was in it. His motivation had gone.
I think he'd been included in squads by Dougie mainly out of respect and probably because young Eaves was getting experience. Then when Davies went on the radio and showed his lack of respect to the club and his wife did likewise on social media I suppose the club felt that it was time to move on. Eaves came back and took his place on the bench.
I don't think it's any great mystery. Before the announcement Davies was not involved all that much in terms of time on the pitch, odd sub appearance here and there, and I think that's how it would have stayed if he'd acted a little better about it. Lets not forget he was negotiating a move away from the club to Canada at one point. Dougie probably felt his mind wasn't in the right place.
I was glad he got the lap of applause but anything else would have been silly.
