So. What does a person buy a wife for their 30th Wedding Anniversary. I've got just over two weeks to sort something, but I'm just stuck on jewellery with some sort of pearl wonged on it. But I'm not keen on pearls personally, not that that should be a consideration I don't suppose.

A trip here would put you in the good books for a few years...

In precisely 17 days I shall be there. I'll report back on the happiness levels of the wife and the quality of grub and booze. The wine list is supposedly 80 strong and decent...and included in the price, as is mini bar (restocked daily ) and as much food as my fat belly can take. I'm quite looking forward to it.

PS - If you stop off, Dubai's old industry was pearl diving. Must be one or two still lying around

My old boss took his Mrs to Manoir Au Quat Season for dinner bed and breakfast for their 40th wedding anniversary. He rated it although he had to sit down when they brought him the bill. A week in the Maldives/Dubai would have been cheaper!

Yep, and the missus has never been one for troughing. She'd probably like to go out mind, but probably to the Bolshoi rather than the Fat Duck.

I like drums, all drums, when played like drums. About a year ago a guy a couple of houses away back to back with us suddenly started up sessions every morning for a couple of hours in the garage. He didn't play drums, he just banged them incessantly, assaulted them. No rythmn no pattern just merciless hammering of the eardrums. It was just mindless cruelty to skins. Must have just been staying there for a few days because the very day I made my will ,bought the sledgehammer and was about to bid the wife goodbye, it all suddenly stopped never to return. Did he hear me stating what I was about to do to him and his drums? I know not. I pray he never returns.

We had one a year or two ago, TANGO. The sound came from the cross street to mine and at a guess a few houses up.

I think the neighbours prevailed (it was bad enough here).

My lad (who's a drummer) has one in his flat. Obviously not as percussive as yer real kit, but he swears by it for practicing. Also when he does any pub gigs he says it's much easier to transport and use, as he can control the volume etc, which in some smaller venues can be a bit of a problem. He can also pre programme the 'computer' thingy on it, so he can have a pint whilst looking to be playing. Given the choice though, he would take the real kit everyday...........

The only time that I bet is once a year on the National. However, i'm tempted to start doing these 5p accumulators where you pick loads of horses/teams, in the hope that I can win a shedload of money, for as small a stake as possible.
