'Bout half a mile each way at a decent pace to warm up and cool down. Thighs feel like jelly, but this is good no? Concentrated on my breathing and I felt really good, never out of breath other than at the end of the last sprint, and felt in control rather than short sharp breaths. Just in time for the end of the football season. Great.
Nice one, Pru. Glad to see you upping the tempo. Not sure about sprinting DOWN hill though.

Re: The athletics/running thread
As part of my plan to do an Iron Man distance triathlon before I am 50 I have just entered my first Standard (Olympic) distance triathlon at Clacton in September.
1500m (Open Water) swim
40k Bike
10k Run
Ohhhhhh Shit!
Next step, Half Iron Man.

He's not an old gimmer. He's just an apprentice old gimmer.

to save GG some time, I reckon GtE should just add some retort about him being old after each one of his posts!Gooner Girl wrote:You'll be fine! I met GTE the other week for the first time for a Tangerine Sherbet. Apparently I'm just a few months younger than him.Gooner Girl wrote:It was a (backhanded) compliment.thebish wrote:to save GG some time, I reckon GtE should just add some retort about him being old after each one of his posts!Gooner Girl wrote:You'll be fine! I've been doing quite a bit of cycling recently and feel quite proud of myself for doing a 20 mile ride. I just can't begin to appreciate how anyone can do a ride like this, preceeded by a swim and then a run. Incredible. Hats off to you GTE!
Hope is what keeps us going.

Re: The athletics/running thread
Race in eight days time. I managed to get a mile run in on Saturday. I shall double it this Saturday, and then hope to the gods of lifting one foot in front of the other that I shall be alright come Tuesday.

I haven't done it yet!
I reckon with my swimming twice a week now (one open water/ one pool) my swim time should improve.
The bike will look after itself. It is, allegedly a flat course.
My running I'm confident of sub 50 minutes even after the bike.
We'll see. Exciting though.

Re: The athletics/running thread
Decided to try and book a couple of spinning classes at Leisure centre tonight as still not able to run very far.
The system is something akin to the Brittas empire whereby they make it as difficult as possible to bloody book anything. Took me a while to navigate round it and got a bit confused. Nobody does 'spinning class' it's all spin blast this, & retro cycle that.
Found a spare class, paid for a place then realised I'd just signed up to a retro workout with dance music & skipping ropes
. I won't be going

Oh go on Harry, you'd be right at home with your shaved pins and feminine looks. I'll even lend you my Lycra hotpants and I'm sure GtE would let you borrow his legwarmers if you want to blend in...
Ahhh, Brittas empire! I loved that programme...

Re: The athletics/running thread
Well I ran (and completed) (and didn't come last) my fell race. Very pissed off though that some scrotes sabotaged the course markers halfway through the race causing the latter runners including myself to veer significantly off course downhill and therefore having to make our way very steeply uphill over an extra half mile to regain the course. Some tossers just love to be scrotes. I'd quite like to wring their fxcking necks. Over the top I know but I would.

Ah feck em Spotty. Well done. How did it feel to be belting along the fells again?Lost Leopard Spot wrote:Well I ran (and completed) (and didn't come last) my fell race. Re: The athletics/running thread
It felt good last night, although gasping along the fells would be a better description. Gawd it was steep almost from the off. It's one of those races that is all uphill in the first half and then all downhill in the second (or it would have been if not for the 'diversion').Harry Genshaw wrote:Ah feck em Spotty. Well done. I didn't hang around for the timings I headed straight for an après-gallop. I'll check out the results on the site when they come up but I'm pretty sure I wasn't last.
