I certainly didn't suggest you were a racist. I merely corrected some misinformation you had posted and noted that spreading such misinformation could cause open-minded people to become resentful and begin to think along racist lines. I am sure you are such an open-minded individual, but you reached certain conclusions based on this misinformation. In regards to people wondering about the St Georges flag thing, here is just one of many reports..

ENGLISH CROSS OF ST GEORGE FLAG DEEMED OFFENSIVE TO MUSLIMS

Recently, Ben Smith, an English football fan, decided to show his team support by displaying the flag of England - the red St. George's Cross - on his car. Mr. Smith was pulled over by police on a routine traffic stop but the gist of the stop was far from "routine" --- or is it?

Ben was stunned to be told by the policeman that his Flag of England was racist and "offensive to immigrants" and that he would be fined $60 if he refused to remove it from view.

"Mr Smith, of Melksham, Wiltshire, said: “I honestly could not believe what the police officer was saying. “He wasn’t rude about it at all. He was just very matter-of-fact about the flag being racist and offensive to immigrants.” Mr Smith, an avid England football fan, said he used the flag to cover up a new set of speakers, which he wanted to hide from would-be thieves He said: “I just thought he was joking and started to laugh, but he looked at me very seriously and said that I would have to pay a £30 on-the-spot fine if I refused. “It was really strange and I drove home quite shocked.”

Upon further question as to why and when the display of the English flag IN ENGLAND - became a racist act - the police spokespersons stumbled through a few lame excuses:

1 - It could be viewed as an "inflammatory act - citing Polish immigrants might be offended?? Highly unlikely the predominantly Catholic Polish would find a cross offensive.

2 - The officer asked Mr. Smith to remove the flag as an issue of "road safety" - the officer rationalized "Road safety and the ability to have a clear view at all times of what is behind you is of great public importance." Oddly enough there is no log of Mr Smith being stopped indicating there was nothing wrong with his car.

So what groups of immigrants is consistently offended by the Cross of St George - and what group would demand such pandering to their religious beliefs? Why muslims - of course. Muslims have made an issue - worldwide - of crosses being offensive to them -- here are just a few instances:

Turkish lawyer files complaint with Union of European Football Associations stating that the Inter Milan's team shirts consists of a big red cross on a white background. This has apparently reminded the Turks of an emblem of the order of the Templars, which is therefore deemed offensive to Muslims. The cross is the emblem of Milan

Hospital bans traditional Easter Hot Cross Buns = offensive to non=Christians ie: muslims.

Cross banned from chapel after being in the chapel for over 60 years --at the College of William and Mary in Virginia, USA - offends muslims.

Cross of St George is also used by Barcelona football team from Spain - on their badge - similar to the Inter-Milan incident it was deemed racist and offensive to muslims. Many muslim nations are altering the Barcelona shirts so it will not look like a cross.

These are just a few of the assaults made against the any representation of the Christian cross by muslims. A brief search of the web will find many more. Clearly muslims are working towards incrementally forcing the eradication of the Christian cross from any public view. With the help of such pandering, multicultural worshipping, politically correct dhimmis - including the British police - muslims may very well succeed.

There's one story of a 'ban'. It's not a real ban, because all actual people could still do it, but a council in Somerset decided not to fly it because it might offend 'Muslims'. After a depressingly long campaign, including Muslims pissed off with being blamed for this kind of shit, the idiots in charge of stuff were told to fly the flag again.

Honestly, if you want to fly a St George flag, fly one. You'll probably look like a chav, which may or may not be a shame, but you are oh so very free to do it.

Chris, the article you quote seems somehow distorted.

1. The zealous policeman.
There is no evidence this conversation between an 18 year old labourer and a traffic cop ever took place. There was certainly no suggestion that one could show the flag or that it would be offensive to Polish Catholics! The police said they might interfere if people were waving the flag and shouting abuse at Polish immigrants (which indeed they should - it is one thing to be proud to be English, another to shout abuse at immigrants). Muslims were never mentioned.

Let's look a fuller version of the police response.

PC Dave Cooper, of Wiltshire Police, could not confirm details of the incident as it had not been logged.
But he admitted there might be situations where a police officer considered the displaying of a flag as an inflammatory act.
He said: “It all depends on the context. If they are going past a lot of Polish people, for instance, and abusing them, then we possibly would ask them to take the flag down.”

He said the officer involved in the incident could have been based anywhere in Wiltshire. The fact there was no log of Mr Smith being stopped indicated there was nothing wrong with his car.

But Chief Inspector Charlie Dibble, of Wiltshire Police, believed the issue was more likely to be one of road safety.
He said: “The officer asked him to remove the flag from his parcel shelf, where he admits it was covering his speakers.
“Road safety and the ability to have a clear view at all times of what is behind you is of great public importance.
“Officers are encouraged to take positive action in this regard and this would apply if there was any object obscuring the driver’s view.”

Police spokespeople were simply speculated on an incident they didn't even know happened.

2. The William & Mary chapel cross removed because it offends Muslims.
This chapel business is also not quite right. The College President asked that the cross be stored when the chapel was used for secular activities, which included many faiths. Muslims were never mentioned. His decision was rescinded anyway. For a fuller version

An after-hours discussion by a campus committee has led to a compromise that will put a controversial 18-inch cross back on display in the College of William and Mary's historic Wren Chapel.
School officials announced Tuesday that the brass cross will be placed in a glass case in a "prominent, readily visible place" in the chapel - not on the altar - accompanied by a historical plaque.
The decision could end a controversy touched off in October when the university's president asked that the cross, which had been kept on the altar in the chapel for more than 60 years, be stored out of sight when not in use.
President Gene Nichol had said he wanted the chapel, also used for secular activities, to feel more welcoming to all faiths.

The Opinionator says Barca shirts are getting altered in many Muslim countries because the cross of St. George is offensive. The source they cite (monstersandcritics.com???) mentions only Saudi Arabia (not a nice country) and Algeria. No mainstream media appear to have covered this story - not even the Mail.


Re Inter - a Turkish lawyer apparently requested UEFA to sanction the club, and was told quite properly to eff off.

Indeed, lawyer Baris Kaska requested, in vain, that UEFA sanction Inter for wearing a shirt 'which recalls the crusades ... and explicitly manifests the racist superiority of a religion.'

One wonders what poor Baris feels the Crescent manifests. Should all Muslims be tarred with a brush because of this idiot? Should I be accused of lying about weapons of mass destruction or be held accountable fro the pronouncements of the EDL?

The Opionionator article does strike me as discriminatory since it takes (sometimes questionable) incidents, distorts them and targets Muslims.

Davro hasn't offered an opinion, he's made some very specific claims. Nor has he been ripped to shreds, he's been asked to substantiate those claims. That you can't tell the difference speaks absolute volumes.

By the way, this morning, within a half a mile of my house I counted five St George's Crosses, three Union Flags and four hanging baskets adorned in red white and blue flowers.

Al I ask is that if you want to live in my country you honour its traditions, and dont expect me to change my way of life to the way you want to live.

It is no longer safe for a white person to walk the streets at night in certain parts of Bolton because they would be attacked by groups of Asian youths (check he pages of the Bolton News )
This is what is no longer acceptable to many people in this land.
