BOOOOM: The General's film recco's hit the Jackpot again. Absolutely brilliant film. Some proper pause-it-piss-funny moments, and some touching ones as well. An incredible and life-affirming story line. I hope that they don't ruin it by bringing out an English language version.General Mannerheim wrote: have you not watched Untouchable yet?

Young Adult. Don't know what to make of it.

I was the same, in that it was in some critics list of top films for the year, and Charlize Theron is in it so you expect a lot, but then it turns out to be absolute shite.Prufrock wrote:Young Adult. Don't know what to make of it.
Re: What are you watching tonight?
I couldn't work out what it was meant to be. The blurb on the LF disc holder described it as a comedy, but it wasn't funny. There were lots of 'cringe' moments, but the main character was so charmless and unlike-able that they weren't funny either.General Mannerheim wrote:I was the same, in that it was in some critics list of top films for the year, and Charlize Theron is in it so you expect a lot, but then it turns out to be absolute shite.Prufrock wrote:Young Adult. Maybe it works it America where they have that whole 'Prom Queen' head-bitch thing, and seeing her as a washed-out nutjob is 'funny'. I enjoyed Juno, and as you say, you expect a lot from Theron films, so I'm glad it wasn't just me! I was sat there thinking, 'either this is shit, or it's going way over my head'.

its this- http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0114906/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
or "Thirteen" (the one from 2003) might fit that thing too.
never seen neither tho.

Having seen Thirteen, I can't really remember it being anything like Juno.a1 wrote:someone on here mentioned juno being a total ripoff of some film with (fwi remember her from) someone in Scream's sister.Prufrock wrote:

Re: What are you watching tonight?
Out of curiosity I just looked up the trailer on Youtube. Thanks for the heads-up, chaps - needless to say I shan't be troubling the good people at LF for your returned copy, Prufrock!Prufrock wrote:I couldn't work out what it was meant to be. Watched I Give it a Year on the train this morning; really cheap and clichéd rom-com, but i bloody loved it. Was biting my hand trying not to LOL in parts. Great fun!

I remember seeing that being advertised when it was coming out and I was all 'oh ffs not this shite again'. Then I saw the trailer and did a big LOL in the office. Forgot to watch it though, so will have to soon.General Mannerheim wrote:Watched I Give it a Year on the train this morning; really cheap and clichéd rom-com, but i bloody loved it. Re: What are you watching tonight?
Also, last night we watched the final few episodes of The Office, including the finale. Ive absolutely loved this show as a whole; you need to forget the 1st series where they just emulated the English versions storylines and characters, almost word for word which completely didnt translate. But season 2 onwards though, it blossomed into probably my 2nd favourite comedy show ever (after Curb) each episode was a joy and i couldn’t stop watching. However it did lose its magic towards the end, the back of season 7 and all of season 8 were pretty tragic, made worse by sad memories of how great it used to be. Then season 9 came out and i gave it maybe 6 or 7 episodes before i finally gave up completely.
The last ever show was on in the US not long back and id read lots of good things so i downloaded it, then decided to get the last half dozen or so to watch in a run up to the big finale... Maybe im just being sentimental but they turned out to be some of the best ever, and the final special was an absolutely perfect send off. im glad its over tho, and happy it wont be remembered for some of the shite towards the end.

Re: What are you watching tonight?
I've tried and failed repeatedly to 'get back into it' over these past few years. Like you, I haven't seen a one of this series. However, I'm intrigued as to how they're going to give it a send-off.Annoyed Grunt wrote:A series I've managed to avoid.....Bruce Rioja wrote:Last ever episode of Shameless toneet!

Re: What are you watching tonight?
Definitely agree. After watching a few of the early episodes for some easy viewing I was surprised how quickly I came to prefer it to the English version. Great characters & story lines and we kept ordering the boxsets from the US to save waiting for it to come on over here. Once Michael left though, there was a definite dip - not sure what season we were up to (possiblyGeneral Mannerheim wrote:Also, last night we watched the final few episodes of The Office, including the finale. Re: What are you watching tonight?
I wouldn't say i prefer it, the English version is pretty amazing tbf, but I don't even associate them with each other anymore. Both brilliant on their own merit.
Re: What are you watching tonight?
Desperado now on channel 5
'I know he's a popular player but we think this is taking things too far. Somewhere in Bolton there's someone with a John McGinlay tree in their garden!' Super John's Wife.
Re: What are you watching tonight?
Been watching series 2 of Touch. not sure why but I'll see it out. Kiefer's whispering is irritating unless he's Jack bauer. At least there's a new series of 24 to look forward to.
